I have never lived in Anderson, but have worked there. It is a nice, quiet place with enough modernity to make it convenient (Wal-Mart, Lowes, Theatres, etc.) but still retains the small feel. It is also near some very nice lakes on which I have spent many a relaxing afternoon.

I live in Anderson. Micah is pretty much on target. Like I said in the other thread they say crime is a little more prevelant in Anderson. But don't take that as people running for there lives or anything and I can't really tell a difference myself. It's a nice place overall. We live just a couple miles from downtown. The downtown area is small and older but there are a few things down there including a real good deli. I live 10 minutes from I 85 and it takes me about 30 minutes to get to Greenville. Some of the surrounding communities are really nice, especially the midway area.

Thanks!!
We will be going up around the middle of October and will be staying near Lake Hartwell. I just want to get up there and scout around. I have noticed on the map that there are alot of little towns so we will check tham all out. Really want to keep that small town feeling, but it's really good to know about the Walmart and Lowes!! Need to stay a bit near Clemson, college reasons! (is that area pretty safe, Clemson)? Thought we would also check out Pendleton. We want to be near the lakes, but not on them. Don't want to worry about flooding issures or the like.

Clemson Blvd. is the 'main street' that goes through Anderson and its pretty packed with businesses and restaurants, the mall, Lowes, etc. You got the right idea, come up and scout around its the best way for you to get information. Clemson is safe from what I know, the town is pretty much just the school. Central is a small town that borders Clemson. Don't get me wrong on the crime in Anderson, its not like people don't go out at night or something but I've heard they have some issues with gang related activity in certain parts. Its just what I hear. The best way to say it is you need to see it for yourself. Personally I don't feel any less safe in Anderson.

Hi PaullySC, since you live in Anderson, I'll ask you this question. How are allergies in Anderson? I just read something that says that the Allergy and Asthma Foundation ranks Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson as #13 in the worst 25 areas in the US for allergies. My husband and I have been thinking about moving to Anderson from the Richmond, VA area. I'm allergic to almost all trees, all molds, all grasses. Trees and grasses don't bother me too much...it's the mold that kills me. Where we live now, the mold count is always quite high. Love the idea of moving to Anderson but don't want to jump from frying pan into the fire.

What about Asthma?
I recently moved here to Anderson, and have never had asthma before moving here. I've had episodes lasting several days to a week twice now in only living here two months. Since Asthma has never been an issue for me or any of my family members It never occurred me to that I should research it before moving here.

Living in Anderson pretty much depends on what side of town you choose to live on, if you choose the South side you will be living in old Anderson where the old mill villages and pretty much closed down plants are, as well as run down houses and abandoned shopping plazas, Anderson has definately changed for the worse in the last 15 years, they have however tried to revitalize downtown, has helped a little, I grew up there, and would not move back.
