we've gone countless times since our move down here 3 yrs ago; became members so on any given day we can just take a drive over and walk around for a couple hours. And though i'm not a flower person so to speak, it's nice seeing the gardens as well, esp when at full bloom
Riverbanks is an amazing zoo (wish there was something similar in the Upstate) - but I made the mistake of going there during Columbia's mid-July heat LOL (should have stayed inside at the penguin exhibit)
I agree the Zoo is great, but as far as it being the largest and most popular tourist attraction in SC is nowhere near the truth. As a matter of fact I goggled tourist attractions=in SC and of three site I visited it did not even make the list.
I just googled "South Carolina's major tourist attractions" and historic Charleston is #1. I think they were talking about single venues. Maybe there's a single venue in the state that attracts more visitors per year than Riverbanks Zoo. If there is then I guess Riverbanks isn't #1 after all.
So have I, and since size wasn't a significant part of the equation used in the ranking, I disagree with you.
