Default Modern Day Rice Cultivation

I know there were rice plantations in the past, but could you do this now and earn money?

Not plantations obviously, but farms.

Rice farming is done in Louisiana and California with large harvesters. Maybe the areas in South Carolina are too difficult to farm commercially, or they cannot be cost competitive with other states.

BTW, I've been in California in the fall when they burn the straw in the rice fields, and it was very smoky. I've also seen the paddies in Louisiana-- an interesting way to farm.

i could be screwing this up completely but recently i read that Louisiana produces more rice than China. or.....i read it wrong and it said Louisiana produces more rice outside of China. meaning that LA as a state alone produces more of the stuff than anywhere else except for that big ole country in east asia. either way that should tell ya something right there.

Don't think La has the land area to compete with China.

so i lied China produces well a lot more than USA regardless of state. Louisiana is in the discussion though as far as USA is concerned. most rice production from what I can tell is long the Miss River in eastern arkansas though. NoCal and southern LA are in the top 5 as well.

Sorry. If I came across as mean, I apologize. Didn't mean it that way.
