The company is dropping customers who don't carry Allstate auto coverage, have older homes and who insure their homes for less than $220,000.

It appears they are targeting the poor!

All State dropped out of the auto insurance business in MA so the state of MA said either write it all or be gone. All State has not been able to sell insurance in MA for over 20 years

All State is actually Some States.

Insurance companies have to have approval from each state to operate there. The biggies probably operate in all states but the smaller guys don't.

We had American Family in Illinois for our homeowners but they aren't in SC so we went to Allstate for home and auto. Guess we won't be dropped!

Farm Bureau Insurance is issuing letters of non-renewal to 3,000 South Carolina homeowners as well. This seems to be directed more toward the Lowcountry, although the affected customers reside in 17 different S.C. counties.

Quote:
A Farm Bureau spokeswoman said the company paid $36 million in claims last year, the most since Hurricane Hugo in 1989. One April 2011 storm dropped baseball-sized hail on Berkeley County, triggering $23 million in claims.
