From what I remember, both were in the 650-680,000 range. Charleston and Columbia have both broken the 700,000 metro area number, with Charleston listed as the 3rd fastest growing metro in the nation. Rock Hill was included in the Charlotte metro, of 1.8 million.

Wow. SC cities are growing fast. Charleston is exploding and growing faster than people can adjust! Add in the 50,000 or so tourists a day, and its getting crowded here!

Columbia long ago broke the 700,000 mark and is pushing 800,000 now. Charleston just breached 700,000 though.

Yeah I saw that, 790,000? Wow, grown a lot! Boeing and other businesses locating in Charleston have really kickstarted a lot of growth. The Eastern part of the county lifted a building restriction law that was on the books for 10 years, and now it's booming with new construction, business, homes, etc.

Lots of good stuff in the future for SC cities!

Yeah, Columbia will reach 800,000 next year. Most likely by 2020 it'll be above 900,000.....And Charleston at 800k

Here's an interesting site I found. Just type in SC under the state and do search.

Should not be long before Columbia breaks 800k. Are there counties around Columbia that may be added to the metro? Does Sumter have a chance of being added?

Columbia will hit 800K during the first half of 2013 most likely.

If Sumter gets added, it would probably be part of the CSA first. But we'll have to see if any changes are made in how MSAs/CSAs are defined; we don't have long to wait though, since new designations come out next year.

For the record, between 2010 and 2012, the estimates have Charleston adding 37.5K people, Columbia adding 25K people, and Greenville 23K people.

I'm sure most of the Greenville msa growth is probably in Greenville county. I can feel it. Laurens, Pickens, etc has probably seen very little growth. Are csa numbers available yet?

If you add western Spartanburg County and northeastern Anderson County, which are true suburbs of Greenville but currently not included in the MSA population, then that number is certainly going up.

If Mount Pleasant/east Charleston county keeps growing northward, and Myrtle Beach area keeps growing southward, eventually those two will be close enough to count together. Eastern Charleston County is about to explode with growth, especially with the new 17 widening done.
