I think it's a great choice.

Tim Scott is our representative and I was happy to vote for him twice. He's a great choice.

That's an odd thing to say. I don't know why anyone would expect a Black to be a democrat any more than they would expect a White to be a republican. If I didn't know better, I would think you're trying to start a fight.

Personally, I don't agree with all his positions, but I prefer him to any of the other names tossed around, and certainly an improvement over who he is replacing. I expect him to represent SC well.

his views aren't any different from DeMint's, both are mainstream conservatives.

You are faking ignorance or you are ignorant if you aren't aware liberals are fond of calling black Republicans "Uncle Toms". i'm pretty sure i could find liberal quotes who have already called Tim Scott an uncle Tom. I saw another thread about Tim Scott on here by a liberal saying he was an affirmative action selection.

Here is one Democrat doing exactly what I predicted:

Tim Scott has been appointed to fill the South Carolina Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Jim DeMint and immediately the racebaiters jumped in with both feet to attack him. One of the early hatemongers was Amos Brown, a host on a religious radio station in Indianapolis, Indiana. Brown used his Twitter account to claim that African American Tim Scott isn't really a black man.

Tim Scott is, of course, a Republican just like Governor Haley who will appoint him to the vacant seat. All one need be is a black man in the GOP and the hatemongers come out in force with their racist name calling and radio host Amos Brown rose early to the rote attack.
On his Twitter account (@Amoswtlcindy), Brown wrote, "Gee, courtesy of S Carolina GOP, the nation gets Tim Scott an ultra-rightwing, Tea Party devotee US Senator who's Black only in skin color."

i'm going to avoid feeding the troll here, and just congratulate sen. scott on his appointment. i'm sure he'll do a good job, and it is good to get some color in office in SC, even if its for no other reason than outside perceptions.

Representative Scott will serve the State of South Carolina well as Senator DeMint's successor in the United States Senate. I hope more people will inquire about his ideas and convictions rather than the demographics of being an American of African descent.
