Hi everyone! After considering both southern NC and northern SC, it looks like my husband's job will put us is the Myrtle Beach area. We're relocating with three almost teens, so the high schools are important. Carolina Forest HS, Myrtle Beach High, and St. James High all are rated fairly high. I also like the neighborhoods in the Carolina Forest area (in fact, is there any area left that ISN'T Carolina Forest?!) Anyway, this presents our dilemma: my husband needs to be within a ten to twenty minute drive to Little River. Although that area looks nice to live, the North Myrtle Beach HS isn't rated as highly as the more southern ones. Is it possible to live in the Myrtle Beach area and still make it out alive to Little River during the mad traffic rush I keep hearing about? We're coming down in a few days to look around and time it, but any opinions/advice from this forum would really help in our search. Thank you so much! Melissa

I almost forgot - do any of the beach towns offer a Junior Lifeguard program? My kids love participating in ours up here and they're really hopeful we get some positive answers! Thanks all...

Melissa:

I'm not sure about the Jr. Lifeguard program so for that, I'd need to point you to the local YMCA, which, in all likelihood, would be the one to sponsor such a program.

With regard to the commute from Carolina Forsest to Little River.. since 31 is now in place, your husband should have no worries at all about getting to/from work in that 20 minute timeframe. I worked in North Myrtle Beach and I live in Socastee and even during the WORST traffic (4th July, for example) I could make it home in 30-40 minutes via 17. When I was farther up the beach and 31 was more practical to use for my drive home, I could be home in 25 minutes or so even after driving several miles further just to use 31.

The schools in Carolina Forest are among the best in the state. You will find that the kids there are from various parts of the country, so there is a great diversity there and I'm sure that your kids would be able to blend in with little to no problem.

I agree I travel from the middle of CF past Little River everyday. No worries. The closer you are to the 31 side of CF will save a little more time.

loris and longs also have some very nice subdivisions popping up in the area. You'd still have very close access to everything but not in the middle of all the bad traffic.
