Why do you think that? I commute to Aiken from Lexington for work and it is never that congested. I drive to North Augusta and Augusta a couple of times a month and don't see much traffic on I-20 between Aiken and NA. I-520 from Exit 6 in NA to US 1 is usually a ghost town, too.

I mean even the signage in the Columbia and probably the Greenville Roads are horrible. I know for Malfunction Junction the i-126 sign for Downtown Columbia has no 126 shield but has the text spelled out in small letters. Plus the 378 Sign on 26 East is on the side rather than over hanging. Little things but even that would make a difference I think.

I actually think the 526 interchange with 26 in Charleston is the worse one in the state. It really gets backed up trying to merge on to west 26 coming from west ashley.

Much needed improvements. I know the widening at St. Andrews to Broad river will be a breath of fresh air because when you have that far right lane that automatically exits on to St. Andrews road, that throws a lot of motorists off and thus creates a slow down at that section of the highway; especially if the big rigs are trying to get over.

Any guesses at when they start on these? Hopefully this Isn't something that takes more than a few years to materialize.

The I-85 widening will make the drive to Charlotte less hairy in the Cherokee county part. It's just too narrow there.

Well after my rant, I am glad to see some of this money being spent in Columbia, but how much is a 4th lane in and out bound going to help? Is it going to be an exit lane?

It will help, but not as much as completely re-doing Malfunction Junction. That's probably out of pretty much everyone's price range.

They could at least do some to it like an exit lane on 20 west for 26 west. There isnt even any deceleration room there at all and this would be an easy fix.
