Default Port Royal, SC

Can anyone give me any information of Port Royal, SC or the surrounding areas such as Beaufort, SC? My mom who is retired is looking for a small town that she can get around without a lot of traffic and can easily get around either by car or walking.

Port Royal and Beaufort are adjacent to each other and you cannto really see where one ends and the other begins.

I am not sure what you consider small, this area is growing quite rapidly.

My mother in law is thinking of retiring and she would sell her house here and move to a less expensive place to live, this area is geared towards higher income retirees such as those who live in gated communities.

I wouldn't suggest walking many places as the area is quite spread out and for a good part of the year you would get heat exhaustion.

I would look at Beaufort if you're into walking. Its more expensive, but thats the historic core of that area. Port Royal is a little more spread out, and you probably wouldn't walk to Beaufort from there. Supposedly they are going to rebuild the old port there into some kind of new urbanist community, but I have no idea what the timeframe on that might be.
