I work for my money. I am not on any government handout. The only check from the government I get is the one I receive for punching in for 40 hours, running medical and fire emergency calls. Calls the great taxpayers of this city call 911 for, and pay for with their hard earned taxes.....the same taxes that I, too, pay every other week in my check.

If the State government took a bit better care of it's citizens, it wouldn't have to TAKE more money from the Feds in handouts than it sends.
If the State government educated its kids better, we'd have a better workforce that would attract even more companies. Boeing doesn't like having to import so many skilled workers because we don't have as many here.
And if the State government had done the above for the last two decades, we would A) Attract business and B) Also not be a Federal Welfare State that takes more from the Feds than we send back.
And that would make South Carolina both successful, AND self-reliant as we'd no longer be a welfare state, we'd offer more jobs, attract more companies.
See how that works? Our State government WILL get funded, either by our OWN people, or, by OTHER people outside of SC by having the Federal Government send us handouts. Right now, the Feds and other state's taxpayers are funding OUR state government.
That isn't fair. We need to be self-reliant. That's a TRUE conservative value. Right? Do that first, THEN worry about how to get the people we have to sustain to take care of themselves.
But how can we demand our poor take care of themselves, when WE as a state can't even survive without handouts from other states, via the form of Federal tax handouts?

I don't think it is true that most of our schools are getting built by federal dollars. That actually should be the no. 1 thing we are paying taxes for. School stuff. Your premise is that the school stuff is like marginal in prioarity in SC so the federal government has to pick it up. No, that isn't how it works.
The thing about liberals is they don't give to charities in general. They don;t pay much in taxes.
