Find a job first, then move wherever that job is. Have you looked at the pay scale for said job in this state? This is a low wage state. Are you prepared to live on less than you make in NY?
It reminds me of a roleplaying exercise in an interview I once had:
Interviewer: "I'm looking for a car"
Me: "What kind of car?"
Interviewer: "Just a car"
Me: "A small car? A large car?"
Interviewer: "A car."
If the O.P. is sincere in their query, here's the best advice I can offer:
Consider SC long and hard before making the move. There are a lot of transplanted Long Islanders in, and outside of, Charlotte (living in SC, specifically Fort Mill), that hate it here. They're quite dour, though I don't see any difference in their disposition from those who live on Long Island...
And then there are those transplanted Long Islanders who don't like Long Islanders, and love living in the South.
A good place to start might be whether or not you prefer water activities - in which case you might be interested in areas around Myrtle Beach.
Lol you are due for some serious culture shock .. the LI attitude doesn't do we'll down here.
There are plenty of LI transplants in the Charleston area that love it there.
But yes, leave NY back in NY. I am from NY and have gladly left it behind.
