South Carolina has four in-state calling areas:
- Charleston
- Columbia
- Florence (includes Myrtle Beach)
- Greenville (includes Anderson, Greenwood, Spartanburg)
Three other calling areas cross into South Carolina:
- Augusta, Georgia (includes Aiken)
- Savannah, Georgia (includes Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island)
- Charlotte, North Carolina (includes Lancaster and York counties)
While the Florence calling area is growing, I doubt it has used enough phone numbers to warrant a split area code yet. If phone numbers in area code 854 are exhausted quickly in Charleston and Hilton Head-Bluffton-Beaufort, then it would make sense to split the Florence calling area from area codes 843 and 854.
