Glenn McConnell: The Status Quo Rolls On » FITSNews

Oh. My. God. The new face of the College of Charleston:

Sickening SC politics as usual. 1861 resident Glenn McConnell was just appointed the president of the College of Charleston. Apparantely, all sorts of statewide political posturing led to this, including a deal between he and Nikki Haley (who appointed a lot of the C of C board) who coerced the board into appointing him....if he agreed not to run against her in a primary.

For the record.....

The faculty/staff at CofC overwhelming didn't want McConnell. Only 11% supported him. About 30% supported the candidate from Harvard. 60% supported the provost of Univ South Florida.

All week long, students and alumni petitioned and protested McConnell. The school has long suffered from a lack of diversity, and has tried hard to attract minority students.

This rebel flag waving politician obtaining this position of power over a fairly liberal campus is going to be a black eye for C of C and the city of Charleston.

Though i feel i should point that if he was a reenact-or for the North this would not be an issue the other 2 were certainly better qualified....

The other 2 were far more qualified. He has exactly ZERO (0) years experience in any academic setting. 0. He even admits it.

This post is a political favor, or political olive branch, from those in SC politics who do not want him in the primaries. And North or South.........let it go. Hes on par with the people who dress up like Marvel characters at ComicCon, minus the whole slavery thing.

Truly embarrassing.

When a black student comes to the president's office at C of C now for an award, or to ask for help, wonder if the rebel flag and Confederate memorabilia will be hanging on the walls?

So so pathetic. Just when I thought SC was taking a step forward and growing in the right direction......**** like this happens haha.

I do not know if McConnell's appointment to the position of President of the College of Charleston is effective immediately and if he would resign from the position of Lieutenant Governor.

You're joking right? Has this man ever said anything denoting black people? You posted a picture of him in a civil war reenactment (would you have preferred puppets?). Let the flag fly, you find it raciest, true southerners find it as respect to the soldiers who have fallen.

Your just stiring the pot my friend, trying to make something out of nothing. (Just like the media and NAACP).

+1 for the Conservatives, the storm is coming Time for change

We have a Confederate Memorial on the Battery, I don't see you complaining about that

Plus the woman candidate was the worst. I sat in for question and answer... She was very suspicious, and abruptly left her last post due to a brewing scandel where money was lost.

"It hurts us to see groups like the Klan holding that flag. You want to talk about a sick feeling? Our group, our historical groups, we are disgusted when we see it. But we're equally disgusted and sickened by the political rhetoric and people say it's an emblem of racism, it's an emblem of hate, it's shameful and all of this. How do they think we feel when it's the emblem of our ancestors? They hurt our feelings."

McConnell

So if he feels disgusted when he sees the Klan holding that flag..........

Is he surprised when others get disgusted when they see him honoring a flag that the Klan is holding?

I'm a true Southerner also. And I honor the American flag. That's it. That's our flag. And our state flag. The blue one with a tree on it, not the red and blue X flag.

We wonder why SC is the butt of so many national jokes. And sometimes....we see why.

Oh well. The state politicians yanked funding for CofC for daring offer a book dealing with homosexuality as a lesson. And now they get an 1861 resident to be their president.

What next? Will they mandate that CofC freshmen take a pledge to never have an abortion, marry someone of the same sex, or vote Democrat?

This reeks of politics in SC at their worst.

Well, folks, if you live in Charleston, and you want to go to a college that doesn't glorify anything Confederate related.......The Citadel and CofC are out now.

You always have Charleston Southern and Trident Tech!

Hopefully with this new change students will learn its "not ok" to stay home, claim unemployment and rely on the government... Hopefully they'll learn to make promises and stick to them, and stick up for their beliefs when their friends are being attacked

Hoping for the best

President McConnell couldn't convince them of that when he was a powerful politician. What makes us think he'll do it at the school?

I know many thought Obama was unqualified for president because he had no experience. McConnell has exactly 0 hours working in higher education. Hmmm.

But hey, maybe he can convince them that our elected leaders should spend a lot of time and state money trying to restore the honor of a rebel submarine, and keep trying to bring honor to flag which people fought under for a cause that was intended to keep a race of people enslaved.

All that said, if McConnell can get C of C to start a football team, I'll forgive all and salute him. Heck, maybe he'll change the name from the Cougars to the Rebels, and their home uniforms will be all white!!
