I considered it but I never ended up applying to it. I also heard it was in the middle of nowhere haha
well it is only 45 minutes from Greenville which is one of 3 big cites in SC and has a great downtown that many people like better than Charleston's. Atlanta is 2 hours away. And Anderson is 15 minutes away with restaurants and a mall.
But good thing about Clemson is students kind of own the town. You are mixed in with older people in Cola and CHarleston. I think that makes Clemson a bit more unique
I really appreciate this advice and will definitely put it into consideration. I've done a lot of research on all of the schools, and I've come across both good and bad. I always had intentions of going to law school but those intentions may end up changing
College is a bit of a trap. Most 18-23 year olds aren't sure what they want to do, and even if they are, by age 27-30 they usually change their minds. So, they end up with a degree they don't use, and a lot of debt.
With that said, if you are SURE about what you want to do, go for that degree. If not....consider taking a year off and doing an internship or getting work experience while you save some money up (less loans!!). Or, get a degree that you KNOW will get you a good job one day...even if it means it'll be harder in college to get it.
You have your whole life to have fun. Have some in college, but know that its definitely not the only time in life you can have fun. Make sure not to fall into the debt and useless degree trap.

It is. But, some people want that in a college, to be kinda secluded from everything. Its a very small town feel. The "Esso" club is basically the social scene....an old gas station turned into a bar.
Fun football gamedays though, and pretty hills/lakes, good degree, all that if that's what you are looking for.
But, if you want a city environment in South Carolina, go to USC, CofC or Furman.

there are a lot of other bars than that there. I never went to Esso when I was a student there. I doubt you know much about Clemson given you live in Charleston and went to Coastal.
The social scene is hanging out with people you meet thru classes and other activies while attending. You don't have to have bars to socialize. You can buy beer at stores. Clemson has gotten quite a few restaurants in the 12 years since I got out like Mellow Mushroom.
Clemson is lot cooler than Furman, Furman has no little downtown adjacent to campus, it is good 15 minute drive into downtown Greenville. It def. isn't a big city college. lol
In my view it is stretching it to say SC is a "city" environment. Colubmia isn't exactly Manhattan or Philly. lol To me SC is pretty self contained and doesn't feel much different from go to Clemson. I went to SC for a semester.

I was actually considering a gap year for a while but then parents and others insisted that I would just be wasting time and wouldn't go back. So, without proper support, it probably wouldn't turn out too well. So here I am. I am worried about debt, and I would go to an in state school to minimize that but I really don't like the ones that I applied to. On the bright side, I'm using the GI bill so it will cover part of my OOS tuition. Speaking of which, USC has a program that would add to that and help pay for it which is a reason I would go there.
What is considered a useless degree? I don't think I would do too well with one in engineering.

At this point if I wanted to go there I would have to transfer, the deadline already passed.
OP: from your user name, I'll guess you live in Maryland. If you're looking for poli-sci to eventually work in DC, one advantage of South Carolina is a large, active alumni association in DC. I am a fan of UofSC, two of my kids went there and had great experiences. One of my kids did apply and get into CofC but because she had attended a small, private school, decided that Charleston was just too small and wanted a bigger campus and wider variety of people. And, just like you, she didn't like the rural atmosphere of Clemson.
Reading through the other sites is just one more way of getting information. You can really only make the decision by visiting the campus. You'll know which feels right.

oh, well it is no biggie, I think SC is somewhat similar to Clemson and it is a nice campus and self contained despite being in more urban location. I always laugh when SC fans say Clemson is too rural because I attended both schools and SC never felt urban too me in comparison.
I think housing is probably a hassle at COC and I would prefer a more laid back campus like SC's
we really pulled together as a group to help this young man make his decision, tonight. I'm proud of us. lol
