What are the wages like?
Not much point in relocating if the jobs in the area pay what's normal (read:low) for the South.
The cost of living is low as well. That has to be taken into consideration.

If rail is going to run from Summerville to downtown, then it needs to be commuter rail. Light rail would be insufficient. Passenger rail from Charleston to Columbia on up to the Upstate would be a great thing though.
That's a good website, I was going to direct you to the Dept. of Labor or the US Census bureau, but they only give median outlooks. I'll have to write that one down, thanks Ledmonkey!
I would love to see a commuter train. When I lived in Houston for a time, they could never figure out how to put in a rail system on top of the highways, so they have an elevated HOV lane. It was the difference between a two hour drive and a 20 minute drive. People would advertise in the paper for car pool companions. Once you got to downtown Houston, they had a rail system in that area, but I've never used it. The HOV took me right to my office basically. Are they planning like a L-Train? I don't read up on our traffic situation all that much, finishing 526 would probably help a lot, but that seems like a dream...
Thought I would bump this, since GSP is back, and asking why SC would focus on the Greenville, Columbia, Charleston metros instead of York County......only because York is near Charlotte.
The links show a good reason why.
