Can SC compete with that? I know pay is probably less (as is CoL) but what I get paid here doesn't go far at all in NJ, and if I was living in SC I feel it would go much further (undoubtedly would, our property taxes are insane. $5500 a year on a $150k house for example). Thanks for the help!
I can give you two real life situations and you go from there.

Group Home Manger in MA making $50K. Same situation in SC making $32K

Firefighter in MA making $60K salary with $25K overtime for $85K. Same situation in SC about $45K.

Bottom line is they decided to say in MA and retire to SC.

Interesting. I figured jobs pay less. Maybe IT isn't as bad? I was supposed to take a vacation to MB this year but it did not happen! I want to go check it out for sure, and go to Charleston. Charleston looks like such a nice city (Philadelphia is mostly dirt, scum, and pollution unfortunately) and you can be close to the beach. It sounds like a promising area!

Charleston is a lovely place with a great quality of life. I believe you will be able to find a job in IT.

I am saying best you check out cost of living while checking out jobs. As an example you should be able to get a very nice, upmarket apartment for about $1K or a bit less thus one can live better for less.

As that article posted by Charlestondata shows that the IT job sector is blossoming and will only become bigger. Especially around North Charleston, Summerville and Mt Pleasant/Daniel Island.

I messaged a recruiter and asked for his opinion. Informed me that the market is saturated with entry level talent (which is the case in my current area) but higher level jobs don't have as much competition. Said what I do now would pay around 50k in Charleston (which is less but not as bad as the Group Manager example).

Good article posted too. I think I could do alright down there. The only think that's really tough is it seems like some of the things I enjoy (horse racing, MLS [I have season tickets], NHL) are not really available except for some minor league options.
