Last post for moving from OH to SC was in 2011 that I found.

Hello,
We are wanting to move to SC area from Lima, OH. Husband and I are originally from small farming towns Coldwater/Celina Ohio. We are becoming empty nesters and want a change in life.

I keep saying this cannot be what life is suppose to be? Work, home, supper, tv, yard work then bed? No way can I keep living in an area where there is nothing to do. Life has more to it then this!!! We are ready to move and start our lives. We pay $650.00 now for house rental in OH.

How do we look for jobs and where to live, prior to moving there, if we cannot visit? Or not visiting before moving a bad idea? We do have money saved up for this move.

We have visited the area couple years ago and love the area. I don't want a big city, but want something with jobs, close to ocean; 30 min or so. Want an area with things to do, not like boring Ohio.

I have a large amount of office experience; accts pay, rec, payroll, etc. My husband is in the roofing industry-repairman. Are there jobs their like we have here that pay similar?

I would really appreciate a "pen pal" or someone to become friends with to help us on this journey!!!!

Any takers????????

Bluffton/Beaufort area?

Or

Columbia/Summerville area?

Thanks a million for all your comments!!!

Default Moving to sc from ohio

Hello,
We are wanting to move to SC area from Lima, OH. We was going to move to FL, but changed our minds to SC. I lived in Rome, GA for a while and HATED it! Nothing there to do either! I am wanting to live in gated community, something with pool, gym, etc to give us something to do. I want simple life now!

How do we look for jobs and where to live, prior to moving there? We have visited the area and love the area. I don't want a big city, but want something with jobs, close to ocean; 30 min, 45, etc. Right now in Ohio we pay $650.00 for a house we rent.

Where did you move from? Can you help us on where to move, where jobs are, etc.? We are a great hardworking couple!

My husband is a foreman for a roofing company- repairman, and I have large amount experience in office administrative; accts pay, rec, payroll, etc.

Looking for someone to become friends with to help with the journey we are about to take!

Any takers? We are not crazy weirdo's either! We are great, funny people and very active!

Or should we just sell everything, take a chance, and move?????

Thanks a million!

This is a rather small forum. Multiple posts regarding same subject are not necessary.

If you need a job start looking online now. You'll find them posted on all the major career websites. I think it will be hard for you to find a home for the price you are now paying.

I didn't realize I had multiple post. My computer kept freezing up. I went to the red icon and told the administrator I had multiple post by accident and to delete. Sorry.

Buckeye,
I don't live close to the ocean, so can't comment on what the rent is there.
I vacation at the beach, but I'm 3 hours away.
I really don't think you should move anywhere without visiting the town or towns
you may want to live in first. Don't do that.
Visit the area you are interested in, look around, check out the apartments
or homes, look around at the job market.
Myrtle Beach is all tourist jobs.
The place is empty in the winter. Very few year round residents live there.
The income for the year round residents is not good at all.(working jobs).
Mabey look in the Charleston area, I'm sure you would like the area.
The rents are high, just to let you know. Charleston is not cheap to live at.
There is alot to do, and they have a beach down there.
Visit, Visit, Visit.
If you fall in love with SC, then you will know it's right for you to move.
Good Luck.

That is where we live too. We're further from the beach than you say you want to be, but we're nearby to just about anything you could want to do and 3-4 hours from the beach. Stop by the Greenville sub-forum. There's lots of info there.

I have been to Greenville, SC and I didn't care for it. I figured if we move, I want to live close to ocean, at least an hour the farthest. I am very good at saving money and can budget the hell out of something.

My thoughts are to find a job as a leasing agent, get a rental concession which helps with rent where I live. Then my hubby can find a roofing company to work for.

I really think Bluffton SC fits us best. I have talked to many transplants from Ohio that live in SC now and they say Bluffton hands down. My husband was offered a job in Myrtle and Charlotte and he turned down both, don't want to live there.

So bluffton it is! We are taking a trip there in Oct to check it out and interview.

I just wonder if Bluffton, SC has a "bad" area to it. Like where I live I can actually say, don't go to the "south" side of lima, its the ghetto! Have not seen any post on if there is a "bad" side.

In the Charleston area you'll want to look at John's Island or Summerville. John's Island is going to be more rural.

It's a pretty common joke in Charleston about all the Ohio plates we see. The Charleston sub forum would be a better place to inquire if that's a direction you want to go. I would imagine the job market for roofing would be better in the Charleston metro area than Bluffton.

Is there a support group for Ohio transplants that live in SC? Where did you find so many to inquire?

I called down to Bluffton businesses, my insurance company here in Ohio is Allstate, so I called to Bluffton Allstate to see rates and lady answered was from Ohio. I called an condo community, lady I spoke with was from Columbus, OH. I emailed a lady about a house for rent, she also was from Ohio. I could not believe almost everyone I talked to was from Ohio, and one was from Indiana. It was crazy. When they say Ohio ppl transplant to SC, they were right!
