This thread focuses on retail in Anderson, South Carolina, both in the city and throughout the county.

New Retail in Recent Years

Anderson has seen its share of new retail in the past decade. The last major development I recall is Midtowne Park on Clemson Boulevard with tenants Dick's Sporting Goods, Kohl's, Staples and Ulta. Academy Sports & Outdoors has opened in the former Books-a-Million and Circuit City spaces.

South Anderson is showing new retail. Lowe's opened a new store in recent years on South Carolina 28 and Sayre Street.

Neighborhood retail exists on South Carolina 24 toward Lake Hartwell and on East Greenville Street/South Carolina 81. I wonder if these areas will see similar business from Clemson Boulevard with continued growth.

Future

Anderson does not have Costco or The Fresh Market yet. Both chains would do well here.

Default 3223 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621-1714

The former Walmart on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard across from Anderson Mall was acquired recently by Anderson Detail One, LLC, an affiliate of Vanguard Associates Inc. The building is 65,000 square feet and the entire site is 9.5 acres.

The space has also seen use as Montgomery Ward's Electric Avenue and More and Fusion Warehouse. I do not know if Bi-Lo has ever considered replacing its adjacent existing store #5626 onsite.

It's about time (but I think you meant 6.5 acres).

Post something once you know what's going in. Sounds like they're hopeful by next week.

Most retailers that would locate near malls or popular retail districts are presently located along Clemson Boulevard. If any business wanted to locate closer to Anderson Mall in a refurbished space, it may benefit.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I do not know if Bi-Lo has considered replacing its existing store #5626. This store opened in 1986 as Kroger. The layout remains the same for a Kroger in the 1980's, but the store has undergone aesthetic improvements for a Bi-Lo of the 1990's. Bi-Lo is not constructing new stores or replacing stores.

It usually takes more than ten days to announce tenants. The site recently changed hands. The new owner is likely deciding what direction to take toward occupying the site.

Theres still plenty of retailers Anderson is lacking. Marshalls, DSW, Jo Ann Fabrics, Total Wine, REI, Rooms To Go, Trader Joes, Petco, Davids Bridal, Whole Foods Market, Barnes n Noble, etc, lots of absent retailers. Plus an endless number of restaurants.

I asked about the 10 days because in the article the developer said they could name stores in the next couple days, a week ago, so I wanted to see if its been updated.

As for Bilo im not sure what you mean. Bilo isnt included in this, just the Fusion property. Bilo sont going anywhere and doesnt need too?

Bi-Lo #5626 is showing its age. The store has not undergone a complete remodel and renovation in years. Making improvements or replacing itself with a new store would be logical moves to keep up with its competitors.

Barnes & Noble does not have much competition left as Borders imploded and Books-a-Million is closing stores or transitioning theirs to Second & Charles.

I highly doubt The Fresh Market would open next to Bi-Lo, but it is a store the Anderson area can support.
