Default Social Workers?

I Am A Social Worker In Alabama, And My Wife And I Are Considering Moving To The Myrtle Beach Or Charleston Area. Are There Any Social Workers On Here Who Can Tell Me About Their Experiences In The Field?

grunzen is on a distinguished road
I had a Maine social work license and moved here 8 months ago. I found in the places I searched that your license wasn't needed in South Carolina and didn't get you any benefits. I took a job for the State of South Carolina and let my social work license go. You may want to look at all avenues. I worked for many years in mental health case management and now work for DSS.

Most of my experience is in mental health too. What is it like working for the state, benefits and (if you are willing to disclose) pay wise? Are there opportunities out there (what type of agencies--shelters, hospitals, youth homes, etc.)? Are you BSW or MSW? And, lastly, is it that a lot of the jobs didn't require a license or is it that the state of SC doesn't require you to be licensed? In GA you don't have to be licensed but I don't know of other states that do that. Thanks

I work in that field in Charleston. There are private hospitals, group homes, hospice, social services and state department of mental health. The pay is better if you work in the private sector. The department of mental health is frequently hiring. The pay tends to be pretty low, but the benefits are pretty good.
