Looking into moving to SC, we are both retired, like to ride the motorcycle, and interested in an area with no HOA. Any suggestions on a good area to settle? Must have a good hospital not to far, but want to be far enough away from Charleston or Columbia to avoid the congestion. Not too far into the mountains.

Greenville, SC it is. We located here a year ago from FL. It's a change but we like it so far. Do you want to be closer to a downtown or more out in the country? We have Greenville Health System which has several locations around for a hospital. We like the one in Greer. BTW, we also have lots of biker events here that we enjoy. We are an hour or less for the mountains and Asheville. Come check it out.

I'm going to second Greenville, but also recommend the Greenwood area. There are a lot of motorcycle enthusiasts in the area and plenty of non-congested roads to ride them on. We've got plenty of curves, straights, hills, and flats, and we're central to Greenville, Columbia, and Augusta without being so close to any of them that we are encumbered by their congestion. Greenwood is definitely a more country vibe, a lot more laid back, and a whole lot friendlier than some of the nearby bigger areas.

As far as hospitals go, Self Regional is a good one, too. My family has had good experiences with the healthcare system in general, though none of us have been in the actual hospital here, so my judgement is based on experience with affiliated doctors and word of mouth.

That said, when I elected to have surgery earlier this year, I went to St Francis Bon Secours in Greenville and chose a Greenville based surgeon due largely in part on the recommendation of my SIL who is an OR nurse there.

Hope that helps

Greenville is a great area. Greenwood is a mixed bag area.
