Question How is Florence, South Carolina???

I have family there. To be honest, I don't like the feeling I get when I go there.

I was wondering about the city. How is the employment rates? I know it's cheaper to live there than Charlotte. However, my mother claims they pay more but is not as high as Charlotte.

That doesn't make sense, but it's probably true.

Yeah, probably.

I'm not sure how they can pay less and pay more at the same time. Anyway, I would expect Charlotte to have more employment options, and that those options would pay higher.

I'd heard from a famiily with kids who moved there from upstate NY, it was very rundown and the schools weren't good. They moved since.

An article in today's Florence newspaper reports Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone as saying there are 51 gang related groups in the county, with 20 of those based within the Florence city limits. The sheriff's department has a 25 member task force dedicated to controlling gang violence. The entire article can be viewed at the website below.

It is horrible here. Stay where you are or move somewhere better. I have been to Greenville, SC, Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC and they are all very nice.

can you elaborate? i don't want to move there, but i might have to. specifically, why don't you like it? is it boring, unsafe, poor schools, too small, etc... ?

I live in Florence and like any city it has its nice areas and its not so nice areas. The West side of town seems to have the best schools and the most growth right now. We also have some very nice private schools. In my experience the cost of living is a bit high compared to the average income. However, I'm a renter and this may be different for homeowners. I enjoy that Florence is not to congested for my everyday running around but I am just a short trip from the beach. FYI it is great to go to Myrtle Beach during the late fall. Rates are very low and the weather is wonderful. Perfect for a weekend away. I have lived here for three years and have never experienced any crime nor have any of my close friends.
