Here's the overall picture.
Americans in general exhibit two interesting traits:
A. They move more often than any other industrialized (but not so sure we're still in that criterion) population.
B. Despite a plethora of info from the internet, etc, we are among the most ignorant people in the world about our own country, not to mention others.
The rush to the SE has slowed for a number of reasons, with the High Desert West seeming to be the current destination of choice. But then as the article states, all internal migration has slowed-thanks to the current depression.
Regarding SC, the growth has been steady and strong, but not so much as the neighboring states of NC and GA. Perhaps a reflection of the economies of each; possibly just a name recognition thing.
FYI, if you check year-to-year stats, you'll see that SC's style of growth has not caused either the crime problems (which have been endemic since the colonial days) or altered low rankings in overall quality of life, in which SC has been a perennial cellar dweller.
