Ok, so why is this an urgency? Well, I'm just an ordinary guy trying to figure out where to go for the first vacation I've had in a long time. I've got 5-days off beginning this thursday and I want to do a scenic road trip in my recently acquired 16 ft small camper pulled by my dependable but older ford truck. Because I love camping and fishing, I will bring an assortment of fishing poles and tackle as well as my kayak.
What I now fear is awakening thursday morning still undecided about my destinations and poss squandering the 5 days peddling around the house so I'm seeking advice here that can help me choose a destination with interesting places to stay along my route which will begin leaving from Savannah and go anywhere memorable that I can camp and maybe get in some good kayak fishing. My only definite is that I want to get out of Georgia as I've spent enough years camping and exploring here. Other than that I'm open to traveling north, south or westward.
Any ideas?

Head up towards the mountains. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is the perfect season for a mountain trip.

Check out South Carolina's State Parks. Some of them are located on lakes/rivers and offer good fishing. We have camped in quite a few ... the ones with hook-ups as I don't do tent camping very well.

I know you said you wanted to get out of GA, but if you have never camped at Tugaloo State Park, it's worth checking out. For years, I camped and fished there a week every Spring. Great campsites, clear water, sheltered coves nearby that are perfect for kayaking, good bass fishing. Wish I were there right now.

Thanks for all your suggestions; been to the blue ridge mountains in NC as well as the tenessee side- also been to tugaloo sp many years ago and want to get further away than I can on a regular weekend.
Although still nearby, might consider Huntington Island as it's in SC. Are there some places to see for a brief distraction when i want a break from the park and fishing?

If I had a week, I'd head up to Tellico Plains, TN and up the Cherohala skyway to Indian Boundary Campground. It is an old CCC campground with a small lake - perfect for kayaking around. The lake has a beautiful view of the mountains in the background. The Cherohala is kind of a hidden gem of a road not known to most tourists.

On the TN side there are multiple side trips - Bald River Falls, the fish hatchery, Tellico River, Slickrock Creek, and other places. On the NC side of the skyway you have Hooper's Bald, Joyce Kilmer Wilderness area, and Lake Santetlah. It would be easy to spend a week there and only scratch the surface of things to see. It is just as pretty as the Smoky Mountains National Park but without all the crowds.

Amelia Island, Florida just outside of Jacksonville, golf, beach, babes, partying in J'ville... Stay at the Ritz Carlton for extra swagger.
