Horsewoman wants to relocate to Aiken, SC
I currently live in Houston, TX but have also lived in South Florida, and am very familiar with the Wellington, FL horse community. I'd like to buy a small piece of property (about 5 acres) where I can live and keep my 2 horses. I like living in a warm climate all year 'round and hear that Aiken, SC is very horse friendly, and much more affordable than south Florida. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can tell me about life in Aiken. Thanks

The pace of life here is very relaxed. The folks are friendly. Horses have the right of way at all times, and there are even traffic lights where a mounted person can have traffic stop in all directions so that they can safely cross the street. We have a 2,000 acre woods that was donated to the people for hiking and horseback riding, with 65 miles of trails.
I used to live in Magnolia, and used to spend every winter in Wellington for the horse show. I much prefer Aiken.
PM me if you would like the name of an excellent Realtor who also happens to be horsepeople. I am not affiliated, or do I receive a referral fee. I just know that she will work hard to find what you are looking for, and will not sugar coat anything.

I am a former (very beat up) polo player and all of my freinds are setting up shop in Aiken and everyone loves it. Buy now. Everything is going fast. I'm pretty sure that this will be the new equestrian capital in around ten years. Wellington is not what it used to be there is a cloud of pesticide floating over the whole town because of all of the gated communities and their landscaping. The only problem with Aiken is that it's close to nothing. Unlike Wellington.
