Default Living in Bluffton versus Mt. Pleasant

Can anyone give me some feedback on living in Bluffton vs. Mt. Pleasant? I am looking to relocate from upstate NY some time next year and I have 3 school aged children. I've visited both places and think they are beautiful, but I need to consider job opportunity with a tolerable commute (I am a nurse) and good schools. It seems as though real estate is somewhat comparable. We're looking for a place that offers lots of recreation and opportunity for a social life. We're leaving rural town USA. Any advice?

Mount Pleasant for sure. Great schools and plenty to do. I live in Bluffton but have lived in Charleston but if I had kids I would pick Mount Pleasant because of the school choices and if you want a social life, Charleston...Bluffton is older and to me slower which I like better. Even James Island has some cool neighborhoods and close to downtown.

Of course being a nurse you will have no problems with a commute to downtown Charleston. Hope this helps!

I'd prefer Mount Pleasant as opposed to Bluffton. Bluffton is in a fairly sparsely populated area while Mt. Pleasant is a suburb of Charleston and is actually closer to the beach than Bluffton.

Blufton is the place to buy now if you want your investment to grow. I have family there and it's increasing in price and growth. It's a matter of time. I prefer a more laid back place, soon enough you get congestion.

We moved here about 1 year ago and were told that the schools in Mt Pleasant were the best in the area. This may be true, but if you are coming from NY you may want to seriously look into the school system of the area you are choosing to live in. The property taxes here are very low (i.e. they put very little money into the schools). Our youngest is in elementary and they have pysical education in a "gym trailor" at times and play twister or barrel of monkeys. Our oldest is in middle school and at the open house night we were told that there might not be a lot of out of class work because there weren't enough textbooks to go around. All in all, Mt Pleasant is a very nice area but look into the public schools.
