Cheap Golf in SC?
I am considering retiring to SC. Golf is a large part of my life. Are there areas in SC that has what you would term cheap golf for seniors? Is it even too hot and humid to even play there in the summer? I have played in MB in the spring time and it was warm then.
Any advice or information would be appreciated.

Can you tell us what you mean by cheap? Myrtle Beach certainly has a lot of options. It can be very hot and humid in the summer. There are days that you would probably want to avoid, but people still play. A good strategy is to play in the morning to try to beat the heat.

I'm from Sumter. I remember reading in "Golf Magazine" about 5 years ago that Sumter was ranked #1 nationally for affordable public golf access.
I also know that the north side of Columbia - toward Blythewood - is a good area for golf courses. The sandhills region has well-drained soil, and is perfect for building golf courses. Pinehurst (NC) and Augusta National (GA) were both built in the sandhills.
It does get very hot and humid in the summertime. Dewpoints stay around 60-70 in the summer.

Aiken Golf Club (zip code 29803) I believe is $35 for a rond of golf. Aiken is located near several courses with varying price ranges.

Myrtle Beach, SC has wonderful Golf Courses all at very reasonable prices. Its amazing how far along in the past few years Myrtle Beach has come in upgrading. "It's not your Dad's Myrtle Beach any more". This statement is coming from everywhere! Horry County Goverment is spending multi-millions on "refurbishing" MB. Although there will be alot of visitors to MB throughout the years, ALOT of people are purchasing homes to retire to in the future. It looks like it is on the way to becoming becoming a Luxury retirement market! The price points are GREAT comparing to most all other destination areas. I have been very pleased with all the positive news lately on MB and the housing market.

I'm not a golfer but...
we stayed for a few days at Clark's in Santee and we were the only non-golfers in the place. They were all talking about a special at the nearby course for $15 a round. I think that's the cheapest I've seen. This was in October of '06.

Golf
In Anderson we are near the foothills of the Blue ridge mountains so our weather is great. Not too hot and most of the winter it is mild also. Many warm days to Golf. Most of our courses have that price range and we have a nice Golf course called Pine Lakes that is on a beautiful small Lake.
I know how you can get a free years membership to that Golf Course.
Let me know if you are still interested.
