ladyriderVT: I dont think we are talking about Vermonters or rural New Englanders, we mostly mean the flatlander, city types who see themselves as better than others.

as for NYC, that is great you didnt work with people in Manhattan who were rude I lived in NYC for 10 years and the people were outrageously rude, closeminded-esp about rural people, southern people and actually very segregated in their social lives, very much along racial and economic lines--thats why they still have major ghettos in the large cities--if they were so integrative they wouldnt still have people divided as such.

Thank you Chitown, i hate that too, but when people attack the south as chenin did, one has to stand up and not let that kind of stereotyping and bias go on.

I disagree with 'CarolinaJack'. I have been all over the country and spent alot of time in NYC over the past five years and Manhattanites have been wonderful! NYC has people of all backgrounds and it is OK, accepted and somewhat encouraged to do you own thing, look your own way, ect. It is down, way down south they are narrow minded. There is one way and one look and that is it- southern. You are NOT easily accepted in the south if your not a born and rasied and never left. They live in there little box. I guess they don't like to think about or embrace different people from the West Coast, East Coast or Midwest.

Dear JBsunny:

With all "due" respect, you need to take a multicultural course at your local high school or college. You will soon find that the United States is just that, The UNITED States. One of every 4 of us is from somewhere else. We are no longer considered "yankees" "southerners" "confederates" etc etc. We are a UNITED States. Meaning, through assimilation, we are a united front, black, white, short, tall, democrat, republican, indian, irish, etc; we are together, live together, work together, party together. We are considered THE MULITICULTURAL country capitol of the world now and people who envelop diversity live here and grow culturally from it. We live for learning through differences, not offending one's differences. Lastly, sad to say, it is people with your mentality that breed hatred, start wars, race riots, fighting, picketing, and have the most incidence of stroke and heart disease. You need to learn to accept others for who they are, just as you'd expect others to accept you for who you are. You are more than welcomed to visit or live in our great state, if you so desire, that's the great thing about these UNITED States. God bless you, Ava (from the great Northern State of NH ).

PS I accidentally bumped into this forum when researching South Carolina as a possible place for my brother to live with his wife who live in Florida but are from New Hampshire. He has developed Multiple Sclerosis and is bedridden at the age of 46 and has to live somewhere with no stress. Some of you people are truly pathetic. To think that rudeness lies in NYC, the North, ghettos, etc is crazy. Rudeness is everywhere, even in South Carolina. I find it rude to lump people into a stereotype and say they are all complainers. They are not, neither are all South Carolinans rude, they are not. PS "Yankee" is so passe' it isn't even funny at this juncture. Do us all a favor, take a class and get into this century and after you pass it, then speak.

Well what do you do up North if you want fried-okra, country-fried steak, or biscuits with sausage-gravy?

Where I live, I don't think any local chefs even know any of these menu items exist, and I have to plan some kind of a vacation.
