Or better yet, look for a house in Florida, scratch my head and say to myself "What block and stucco white one story house on a cement slab priced at 300 grand would best suit me?". Worse yet, get cut off on I-95 north in Jacksonville by a Missy-Eliot look-alike who seems to think her hands would serve her better doing the "raise the roof" dance instead of on the wheel where they should be...considering she's merging from Martin Luther King Jr blvd onto 95 at 80mph and more interested in her hip-hop music than avoiding a potentially fatal accident in her 60 thousand dollar SUV.

So one of the reasons the North is better than the South because of Italian food? You've got to be kidding me.

Another Da*n Yankee!
As a native of Scranton, PA, which is deep in "Yankee Turf", please allow me to chime in.
The South is not full of gay-bashers, pick-up truck drivers, NASCAR fans, slaveholders, incestuous relationships, and poor hygiene.
The North is not full of tree-huggers, rudeness, snottiness, pro-terrorists, sprawl-lovers, and materialism.
The North and South are both full of a wonderful melting pot of diversity, and that's what makes me proud to call myself an AMERICAN! (Or a "North" American to our friend from Ontario, ColdCanadian!)
For example, I live in an upper-middle-class housing development here in the Scranton suburb of Pittston Township. My father is a college graduate who works as an I/T analyst at a downtown office. One would picture him as being the stereotypical "hoighty-toighty" Yankee. However, he drives a Ford F-150, loves beer, heads to a bar across town to either play darts or watch NASCAR or the NFL, hunts, votes Conservatively on social issues such as abortion and gay marriage, and has the fashion taste of a "hick." Outside of the 9-5 shirt and tie environment, he morphs into a completely different person---A stereotypical "Southerner" as many of you would pre-judge him to be.
Conversely, my aunt and uncle are Scranton-area natives who relocated to Acworth, Georgia a decade ago due to a job transfer with Georgia-Pacific. They're already starting to develop a slight accent, and they've embraced their new city with open arms. They moved to Georgia with the intention of being respectful of the Southern culture, and they've made many wonderful friends down there as a result. They may live in the South, but they love to keep up-to-date on fashion trends, the Atlanta cultural scene, and how they can strive to keep their community a great place to live.
As you can all see, there's no way to properly STEREOTYPE residents of either area. I consider myself to be a very friendly, amiable person---I was even voted "Most Likely to Brighten Your Day" in a high school class poll. Nevertheless, I'm...gasp...a YANKEE, as Scranton is one of the most "Blue" cities, per capita, in the political spectrum. I happen to work for the local Lowe's store, and while our management seems to be a "revolving-door" of sorts, most of them hail from the South. I've found all of them to be courteous, upstanding people.
I can't believe that it's the year 2006 and we still have Southerners bashing Northerners! THE WAR IS OVER! Why can't we all just get along?

To all those who think that Yankees and such still exist:
I can't believe it's almost 2007 and we still call people that love their state and country and happen to be from and live in New Hampshire because they love it, a YANKEE.
Again, I say take a course in multiculuralism and if you pass it, then speak your mind here ! Until then, I consider myself an American whether I'm in Texas, home here in Cow-Ham, or any point in between.
My New Years wish for you is that you feel the same about yourself someday. Ava

The North/South argument is so OLD. It's usually Southern's starting it. You never hear West Coaster's starting this crap. They must have better things to do.

If I were a 'true Southern' I guess I too would want to put the emphasis on Northern's.
Southern's have the worst sterotypes. Cmon, ever watch an SNL skit. I remember one with a toothless, uneducated, obese and poverty stricken couple in the south living in a trailor with too many kids. She was pregnant again and the thought it might be by her cousin. The trailor got picked up and blown away by a tornado.
That all got started from somewhere.
If you ever want a good laugh, that's where it is!

My guess is comments like the one above is probably why Yankee-bashing, either light-hearted fun or resentfull and derogatory is still popular in some parts of the South.
Me, I like anyone who's courteous and pleasant regardless of where they're from.
SWB, thanks for the nod, though I've rarely heard of anyone describe themselves as a "North American."
Instead of making reference to our continent, it's probably more common to hear us as just English speaking people/nations from the Western Hemisphere. (sounds pretty sterile and uninspiring doesn't it?)
