That's not a very accurate interpretation of what I said.
But, again, to clear things up.. some folks take the concept "It's all America.." to a literal level, and fail to understand how different it can be to move south.
Saying "I see myself more as a South Carolinian than as an American" doesn't mean that I think I'm a Cuban or a Canadian. I know I'm American. But when I visit other parts of the country, meet people from around the U.S., or participate in "American media" in general, it seems clear to me that personally, I'm better represented as a southerner or a South Carolinian than an "American".

No kidding! But, National defense is not at all relevant to this discussion.

Absolutely true!! The Brit who was our tour guide in London said something similiar: "Wave and smile so everyone will think you're 'appy to be here!"

AlanD,
I am a native South Carolinian and you are correct and i agree with you. We S Carolinians are welcoming to people from all over--and we have people in our community from all over.
If you like good weather, lots of outdoor activities(golf, walking, tennis, fishing), lots of arts and culture(galleries, museums, festivals), restaurants(seafood baby and gullah baby!!!) and shopping and good old hospitality--come on down to the lowcountry(Charleston, Mt Pleasant, Beaufort, Pawleys, Hilton Head and Kiawah).
Yes we are conservative, but thats our nature and our viewpoint, just as NY is liberal and thats their right to be(we dont try and change them and they dont try and change us).
But we welcome you to SC and you can find a home here(we are home to many Military bases so we are used to welcoming people from all over).

I'm a yankee who just got back from So.Carolina after looking at property. I have never met such friendly nice people. Don't ruin it, some people (state won't be mentioned) thrive on complaining.

I like that! I heard another good one too. It goes "I'm not from the south, but I got here as fast as I could."
Thanks for the smile. Liz

Restored faith
CarolinaJack -
YOU are my kinda guy -nice post! Very well said sir. Like many others have said - while we all may have differences, for the most part your gonna be treated the same way you treat others. I was brought up to believe the old "catch more flies with honey" and it could not be more true. After 40 years of living in the Midwest my wife and I really yearn to live somewhere people go "on purpose". So far the Carolinas is the best bet as far as we can tell. Now we just have to justify me leaving behind a great, secure job that pays really well that I still like after 22 years. Not to mention looking forward to putting four kids through college in the next 14 years. Life is short though. We are heading down to Greenville/Charleston for the week after Christmas to look around and hopefully get our kids to "drink the Kool Aid" about a possible move. Thanks for all the comments folks.
