One yank by 95, two yanks by 40 O well
First if its a english board, I'm toast . If its a ANCESTRAL board, you might want to check , your DNA.
Now I was hatched in R.I., that makes me a yankee . The south seems to be a state of mind. Long ago I found out the state of mind IS Not a state north or south of the Mason Dixion line . One day I stopped everything and asked myself, at any cost $$$ what do I want.
Watching birds ( ) cost zero
Able to hear a dog bark a mile away ( ) cost zero
Do a little fishing ( ) $35.00
A chicken neck and some crabbing ( ) $2.60 +pots $68.00
May be wamp a ball stick ( ) $2.75 if you us a 2x4
Learn how to catch fresh shrimp ( ) $28.50
And the hardes part is slow down , and enjoy a bridge truning ( ) zero if you turn off you motor
WELL I gave up the laser guided, gps sphere delivery system.
Got rid of the gps, cruise control, temp control +-1 df, heated seats, additidue leveling system, cell phone. Having a hitch with two recievers, 1 7/8,2 has more functions
Now to put 2 crab pots in the water, to , too, two , does not make much differance as long as you put chicken necks in both crab pots. I found out if you wrap the bait in a english book it last longer. AND thems crabs taste great, iffen they ate the english book or not. Yes you can add a few grams, or millagrams or a smiggen of OBAY in the butter will work just great.
Its all a state of mind, enjoy life, tommrow is the first day of rest of your life. If it makes you happy to correct grammar or spelling go for it, I'll go fishing, even share my boat with a yankee, reguardless of where they are from.
Looking for a good woman with a better boat, able to set lines, and bait, Broad, Coosaw, river knowledge helpfull.

While I can't be called native in respect to the true natives, my family has been in SC since the late 1600's. I grew up in Myrtle Beach when it was only a summer beach town and had 2 giolf courses (boy am I old). I now live in Murrells Inlet which is growing too (not only also but to an excessive degree) quickly. Yes, I complain about Yankees (tackpots & carpetbaggers) but not all of them. Only the ones that drive like demons or want to come here and make fun of our relaxed way of life. Doesn't everyone want to take the day off and go fishing. Isn't that the reason you retired here. It's also hard to be priced off your land by property taxes. My 80 year old dad got hit with a 378% increase in the assessment of the land his home is on this year. Tripled his property taxes even with homestead exemption and senior exemption. Actually, the biggest threat to our quiet enjoyment of our SC lifestyle is not the Yankees but some of our Carolinians looking to make a quick buck! How much money is an oak tree or a life style worth?

378% increase; yuck! (if you don't want to leave)
I guess you can lay part of the blame on "Flip This House".

It still is the United States Of America, if one wants to cry, why not?

maggie, This has nothing to do with rights.
I don't necessarily agree with all of what JBsunny said, but I don't see where you're coming from. Just because people have the right to act a certain way, doesn't mean that I should be complicit with their jackassness.

JB Sunny, i dont see how you are convinced there are no natives left in SC--my family has been in the South Carolina Lowcountry for 8 generations, since the 1700s and i know many gullah families, Hugenot families and others who have been there along time, esp in Mt Pleasant, Charleston area.
So unless you know me and mine and my good neighbors, i dont think you can say that. personally i dont think we have met.

Justron,
How about the Chechessee River, Hazzard Creek, Morgan River, Beaufort River, and Battery Creek? At a minimum, she should know how to navigate Archers creek at low tide.

My question is this - if I'm from Washington State, my husband is from New York, but our child is born in SC - does that mean my child will get more respect as a "native" than my husband or me?
Being from a military family I've been all over the world, and have met my share of rude people and my share of friendly people. It's not specific to a particular geography. NYers and NJers are very friendly - I made quite a few friends commuting from Queens to the city, and later from New Jersey into the city. I had the BEST NEIGHBORS in the world in Queens and NoNJ.
Conversely, here in SC I've found it difficult to make friends simply because everyone assumes I'm a particular way because I'm perceived as being one of "those" Yankees, although technically I consider myself to be from Virginia, where I lived for 13 years before getting married and moving to NYC. But do I not like it because it's different from what I'm used to? No, I'm giving it time because I know that by this time next year I'll feel as though I've always been here and will be completely settled in. But I should be allowed to get used to the change. If after a month I'm saying, "We didn't do it like that up north," then please forgive me and let it go. If I'm saying that after a year? Tell me to shut up. But I should be given the courtesy of getting used to my new environment.
NYC has hundreds of thousands of people move there every year from all over the WORLD, and yet NYCers don't bash people for making the choice to move there. So why do some Southerners feel the need to bash "outsiders" moving here? It makes no sense to me. What, because property taxes go up? Because new homes are being built? Because companies are moving their headquarters to the area? That's a sign of POSITIVE GROWTH.
That's enough of my $0.02
