Military in Travelers Rest
Hey everybody...I know part of this question has been killed over and over again..but..I got some stuff on top of it...
I grew up in Michigan until I was 19 and went to Texas for the Air Force. I absolutely loved Texas, and, after I got out of the AF I came into the Marine Corps. That brought me to North Carolina and I met a lot of friends from southern areas, and, have visited home with them. I have some great friends in South Carolina and I've been to Greenwood a lot. I love everything about the South and really don't want to go back up North...
With all that being said...here goes...my issue isn't the "north vs. south" thing exactly..but..i guess the best way to put it is...I'm infantry and I've seen my fair share of "bad things." I really would like to just take some time to slow down and relax, and, I have a hard time talking to people right now...I really kind of just want to be by myself until I'm ready...which isn't really that normal for me because I'm probably the most sociable person you'll ever meet in your entire life...but anyhow..I'm about to get out of the Marine Corps. so I'm looking for somewhere to live. There's a job in Travelers Rest that I think I'd be interested in...so basically...my questions are:
1. Will I be looked down upon badly because of the fact that I'm from the North AND I'm kind of keeping to myself
2. What's the stance on Military in that area?
Thanks for any replies.

I can't answer your #1 question as I do not live there. As for #2, if I understand your question correctly, I don't know of any place in the USA where you wouldn't be accepted because you are military. Thank you for your service.
I can't even begin to imagine the bad things you have seen and totally understand why you would want to slow down and relax. I hope I'm not being too personal but please don't wait too long to talk with someone about what you've been through. I have 2 BIL's that are retired Army, one was on the front line in the first Iraq war but he didn't experience nothing like you all have. Take care and I wish you the best.

I'm sorry you are getting treated that way. There is no excuse for that. I have nothing but the upmost respect for all military personnel.

I'd say once you're healed and friendly then you should do fine. I don't spend too much time in TR though. You like the South and said you're sociable so I would think you'd do just fine. They'll make a Southerner outta you yet!
I would think you'd get a good response to being of a military background. The South is mainly Republican so the response to you should be good. Not that a liberal wouldn't support the troops but a few of them might equate the troops with their disagreement of the war.
