Visiting SC
I am going to be visiting SC. I am going to be staying at the Gov's Inn, which I understand is Edward Rutledge's old home. I am interested in seeing the old historical places of SC as it pertains to the Revolutionary War and the People involved. Can you recommend anything?
Thanks.

I'm assuming you will be renting a car while here because there are a few places I recommend that are not in downtown Charleston but need to be seen while you are here.
Downtown attractions:
Aiken-Rhett House
Historic Charleston Foundation - Charleston, SC -
Joseph Manigault House Charleston SC Historic Houses, rice planter, furniture, garden folly, French Huguenot
Heyward-Washington House
Charleston Revolutionary War Houses - Heyward Washington, colonial, kitchen building, furniture
Edmondston-Alston House
Middleton Place Plantation
Fort Sumter
Boat tours of Fort Sumter in Charleston, SC
Old Exchange
The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon
The following you need to drive to. If you don't get to all three of them I highly recommend you trying to see Drayton Hall. However the grounds on Middleton Place were my favorite ground of the three.
Drayton Hall
Drayton Hall: Southern Plantation House in Charleston SC | South Carolina Plantation and Historic Home
Middleton Place
Middleton Place Plantation
Magnolia Plantation
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

The Ninety Six National Historic Site is pretty nice. Also very important Revolutionary War sites in the Upstate include, Kings Mountain National Military Park and Cowpens National Battlefield. While in the Upstate, you can stop by Walnut Grove Plantation in Spartanburg County, and visit the Upcountry History Museum in downtown Greenville, which is loaded with rich historical information about the region. There are also a few key sites in near the mountains to research information about the Cherokee indians who inhabited the area before the settlers moved in.

You will be in a great location right on Bay street. The hotel will have a consierge to help you see everything. However, there is an incredible visitors center which has guides and counsellors and multi-media presentations-and good parking. All of the tours are interesting and fun. Google suggestions: 36 Hours in Charleston. also: Charleston Area Convention and Visitor Bureau.

hey benharrison... are you job hunting while in Chas?
Charleston PD seems to be good outfit and they pay decent for the area. N.Chas is a very busy department if you are looking to stay active. They have some pretty seedy areas.
