Parts of Greenville are getting better with the Swamp Rabbit Trail and Falls Park areas. Yet other parts seem to be showing the signs of overgrowth, including the sprawl on Woodruff Road, traffic jams that remind me of Atlanta, and crumbly, bumpy neighborhood roads and side streets.

The roads I travel in Charleston are so much nicer and less crowded than Greenville's. There is the amazing Ravenel Bridge, the biggest structure and most expensive single building project in SC. Ocean, bay, boating, seafood, islands, none of which Greenville has. If it were my choice to make, I'd choose Charleston, but again, there is some cognitive bias there.
Traffic is much worse in Charleston. I have lived in both.

The Ravenel Bridge is a nice bridge. I like walking on it.

Greenville has seafood restaurants, and restaurants that offer seafood along with other things.

There are several lakes near Greenville.

Charleston has more mosquitoes and gnats and other bugs.

When I lived there, there would be 5 or so frogs on my apartment door when I returned home.

Oops, I meant to call it Waterfront Park, not Waterfall Park.

'Get a rope for this guy?' That is an odd comment.

USA TOday did not even list this park in their top 10 parks in Charleston list.

I saw people on TripAdvisor say that it isn't a destination and they were disappointed. Everybody has their own opinion.

I think Falls Park is better than any park in Charleston. It has been ranked in the top 10 of parks in the country. A waterfall is a unique natural feature for a downtown and the pediestrian bridge is also unique.

The only reason I started talking about the park is one person described Greenville as vanilla.

I will say this once more. For not having a beach, a bunch of tourism, and not being the capital; Greenville is doing well. It's also not as old. Based on this Charleston should be much larger than Greenville and have many more amenities. Greenville has done well. It centers the most populated county. It's doing something right.

"A field next to the river"...how asinine.
I have never talked about Finlay Park on this forum, and I won't talk about it on a topic about Charleston and Greenville. You appear to like getting way off topic, as you were arguing with a person, in a contentious way, about Miami and Jacksonville on a post about Columbia and Charleston city populations. That went on for pages.

Nobody has to like a park that won an award. There are probably people who don't like Falls Park and it has won awards. Main Street in Gville has won awards but there are people who don't like Gville. A person on this topic even described Gville as 'vanilla'.

I have said I liked Marion Square Park because there is more activity there and it is integrated into the business district. I also like Battery Park but would like it better if it was closer to the business district. So I like 2 out of 3 parks on that side of the peninsula. I don't dislike Waterfront Park, it does offer a view of the river, but I don't think it is a place that I would visit regularly if I still lived in Charleston.

I prefer to walk across the Ravenel Bridge rather than going to any of the parks downtown. That is because it is unique and it offers better views of the harbor.

Its the most populated because it includes the whole upstate. Some places not even that close to greenville

That is a good perspective.

In response to the person in the previous post, Greenville's MSA is much larger than Charleston's MSA. Greenville's MSA does not include the entire upstate. It is Greenville-Mauldin-Anderson.

It was under a previous screen name Francis. I know it's hard to keep up with the thousands you've had at this point.

You don't have to like Waterfront Park but the point is you've never even BEEN THERE, yet you characterize it was a "field next to the river" based on a drive-by glance. Again, that's asinine and the fact that it has won such a prestigious award demonstrates that such a characterization is way off-base.

Its 10 counties. It suppose to be larger. Add 10 counties to columbia msa or charleston msa and the population will be well over a million

Charlotte and Atlanta are much larger than Charleston. I wouldn't characterize Greenville's MSA as "much larger" than Charleston's at all; it is only 18.5% bigger, still in the same weight class. And Charleston, growing more than twice as fast as Greenville, is quickly closing the size gap.
