Default andrews, sc teacher

I am a Spanish teacher from PA (near Philly) and have just accepted a position as a Spanish teacher in Andrews, SC. I hope to move down there in about a week. Can anyone tell me anything about Andrews, SC? About Andrews High School? And more so, should I look for apartments in Andrews, Georgetown or another city? Please advise!!! Muchas gracias

Andrews is a small town in one of the poorest areas of South Carolina. Around 1/3 of the population lives below poverty level. All I really know about it is that it's in the middle of the swamp, and for me it is a speed trap on the way to the beach. Compared to Philadelphia, it is going to seem like a different country.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it - I'm sure it's a scandalously cheap place to own land - but there isn't much there.

This is to Pazyamor024 - did you confirm your move and teaching position at Andrews High School? I was wondering because my grandfather was the principal at the old Andrews HS back in the late 40's or early 50's (I think) and he's the one that started the athletic program. He was the football coach. He passed away in 1964. Somewhere around 1966, there was a painted portrait of him donated to the school and my older brother and I went to the ceremony to unvail the painting. I was wondering if it got moved to the new Andrews HS and maybe hangs on the wall there? His name is James E. Millard. Thank you for your help.

Andrews used to be a thriving little town when I was a young girl. I hate to admit it but Andrews is in need of a major overhaul! If you are looking for country living you can get a decent place in Andrews for a good price. But it is a boring place. The people there gossip like crazy and are nosey.

Did you actually visit Andrews before you took the job? It is pretty much as the others have described it. Most of the people I have met from Andrews all know each other and their families go back a long way.

If I were you, I would look for a place in Georgetown. You would be in between Myrtle Beach & Charleston and about 15 minutes from the beach. There are a few nice restaurants along Front St (La Rocca, The Rice Paddy).

Good luck!
