My husband and I are planning a move to Bluffton from Pennsylvania. We can't take winters here anymore - and other reasons, but bottom line is we just need a change. We don't have jobs - and neither one of us has a college degree. I have been working in the medical field (insurance/billing) for 25 years. I was just wondering what the job market is like especially since we will have to purchase a home. We are thinking in the $130,000 range because we are in our 50s and don't want a huge mortgage (especially since we don't have jobs - and cosigned for our daughters school loans). I have a friend who lives in Hilton Head, and he has been a great help. We are planning a trip down in April to look around. Any ideals/suggestions would be greatly appreciated (so would job offers ) Thanks

Bluffton and Hilton Head Island continue to grow. Costs of living may be higher.

What does your husband do for work? Would you be willing to find work in the industries you have been in?

My husband is a custodian at a school district. I don't want to stay in the medical field, but I figured with my experience - I probably will.

Do you have any interests or hobbies that could be more active in Bluffton and/or Hilton Head Island?

I like to be outside especially near the water. I would love to get involved with marine mammals but I figured that is mostly volunteer work. My husbands dream job is to work on a golf course - but I'm scared that won't pay the bills. The thing that I love about my job - is early hours, which I figured I won't get when we move. But I'm pretty flexible.

Your experience in medical insurance and billing could get you on with a health system.

What type of custodial work (i.e. cleaning, plant engineering) has your husband been doing?

He is a custodian - basically cleaning, lining ball fields, basic plumbing and electric. Helping where ever they need him. He has worked at the elementary, middle and high school.

Plumbers and electricians are always in demand.

In regards to working on a golf course, some courses may prefer or require experience or familiarization of their courses and their equipment. I do not know if any require a degree in golf course management.
