Hi Everyone,

My boyfriend and I are moving from Cleveland and are looking to move to a beach front area. Our options are pretty open in terms of location. We are looking anywhere along the east coast (NC is the farthest north we'll go) down to the gulf coast. Obviously this is a huge range, so I'm hoping you guys can help me out with SC.

Here's what we're looking for:

1) We want to be within walking distance to the beach
2) I work from home, so I can be anywhere. Boyfriend works in construction and trades
3) No kids
4) We are in our early 30's so we would like something that has a good selection of bars, restaurants, entertainment, etc.
5) We would initially rent - looking to stay ~$1500 for 2 bedrooms
6) We can handle the tourist crowd in the summer and are fine with quieter times in the off season

Quick note: We were set on moving to Folly Beach - but our rental property fell through and it made us reconsider our options. We love the atmosphere of Folly but an area that's a little bigger would be great. We have researched and visited Charleston extensively, so I'm looking for any ideas on other areas.

TIA!

I lived in the Destin, Florida area for a while. Might suit your needs.

After reading your post, Surfside Beach is the first beach that came to mind. Craigslist has a lot of properties for rent in that area close to the beach that fit your desires, and Myrtle Beach has all of your touristy stuff and shopping needs.

Thanks! I'll take a look at Destin and Surfside.

Myrtle Beach is on our list to visit in a couple weeks. Looks like there are plenty of rental houses in our price range, that are close to the beach. Any insight on living in MB? Are there areas to stay away from? How's the traffic?

MB is a year round tourist party town with no off season.

You can find something in your price range in the Hilton Head area. Construction is exploding in the area.
