The most recent available (2014) figures are available for cost-of-living adjusted private sector wage data for MSAs. Cost-of-Living Adjusted Wage Data for U.S. Metro Areas

This is before the 2013 MSA revisions so Anderson is represented as its own MSA and Hilton Head-Beaufort is not included.

Here's how SC's MSAs stacked up.

Anderson
2014 Average Hourly Cost-of-living Adjusted Wage: $22.31
2014 Average Hourly Earnings (Nonadjusted): $19.96

Charleston
2014 Average Hourly Cost-of-living Adjusted Wage: $22.48
2014 Average Hourly Earnings (Nonadjusted): $22.75

Columbia
2014 Average Hourly Cost-of-living Adjusted Wage: $24.46
2014 Average Hourly Earnings (Nonadjusted): $22.53

Greenville
2014 Average Hourly Cost-of-living Adjusted Wage: $22.47
2014 Average Hourly Earnings (Nonadjusted): $21.34

Myrtle Beach
2014 Average Hourly Cost-of-living Adjusted Wage: $17.51
2014 Average Hourly Earnings (Nonadjusted): $16.39

Sumter
2014 Average Hourly Cost-of-living Adjusted Wage: $20.3

I thought it was self-explanatory; the adjusted wage accounts for differences in cost of living.

Kind of surprising that Charleston is the only metro where the average wages are higher than the CoL..... I guess the tech sector is doing really well.
