No, I am neither in real estate nor in grocery. I am knowledgeable indeed.

I just moved back to sumter for a few months. That IGA y'all are talking about is seriously depressing. The Wal-Mart Neighborhood seems to be cleaning up in that general part of town.

I think something like a Publix would do pretty well in that spot. As for room, most of the Publix stores I've seen out there -- like the one in Daniel Island, for instance -- are much smaller than a full-sized store.

from what I can tell, the grocery market in most of Sumter is pretty saturated. It would make sense to expand further out; I could see Wise @ Loring Mill supporting a new store, although I suspect the local Piggly Wiggly people may already have plans for that.

Publix has seven store prototypes. Its smallest is 29m (29,000 square feet). Quality smaller stores can effectively serve trade areas with size restrictions or have opportunities to have more than one store.

Default Piggly Wiggly #84, 343 Pinewood Road, Sumter, South Carolina 29150-5442

Piggly Wiggly #84 is closing this week. Piggly Wiggly will decrease to three stores in the Sumter County area.

I heard Piggly Wiggly #84 was previously an Ingle's supermarket.

This is speculation of Publix Super Markets acquiring the site of Jones Buick GMC, 1268 Broad Street, Sumter, South Carolina 29150-1942, for a future Publix supermarket.

Publix Super Markets does not own any sites in Sumter County yet. I have not heard and read anything on Publix coming to Sumter lately.

Remember, 20+ years ago 30,000 sq ft was your average grocery store size, and we all seemed to get by just fine.
