Moving from North Charleston to Somewhere in NC

We have only been here three years and are thinking about selling our 2-story house for a 1-story house. Since we haven't been here that long, we were thinking about moving to NC. Either Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Winston Salem, Cary, Greenville or Wilmington area.

Neither the mountains nor the beach is of concern. We are just looking a place which has low crime rate and a really good hospital to include major surgery i.e. heart and low property taxes. Hopefully can find something under the $200k range. We are 63 years young.

What are your thoughts? Thanks a bunch!

If you are relocating to North Carolina, you may receive more responses in the "North Carolina" forum.

Yeah, don't post NC questions on the SC forum.

in general everything in NC is more expensive than SC. property tax, insurance, power bill, housing, etc. NC does have a lower top marginal tax rate than SC now.

There are, generally less expensive housing and lower property taxes in SC. I'm not sure why you would consider NC unless you want to be closer to family.

Since you have asked about 55+ communities in other threads, there are far more of them in SC than in North Carolina. I'd suggest looking aound Murrells Inlet and Little River.

You mentioned some good areas in NC. What are your reasons for leaving SC to go to NC?

Basically just closer to Virginia where we have three children. It would be easier traveling. It would be almost three hours closer than where we are now.

Roanoke Virginia is a great low cost of living city in a valley next to the mountains, not too far from NC. It has a great hospital.
