i worked uptown Charlotte at AREVA's office for 4 months back in 2004 at the bank of america tower near The Green. i don't recall outdoor seating.
Charlotte has the skywalk network, the overstreet mall, the Epicenter. it is an indoor kind of city. the massive office buildings eat up too much space for a lot of outdoor stuff. the South End probably has a good bit, i never made it over there.
one advantage that Charlotte has over Greenville that I like is more chain places like Jason's Deli and Five Guys. i would probably prefer to work in uptown Charlotte vs downtown Greenville.
Couple of things.....there is no BofA tower close to The Green. Have you ever been to Charlotte?
Outdoor seating......I think you are referring to the outdoor amphitheater at the NC Music Factory.....maybe? Many of the 400 downtown restaurants offer outdoor seating.....you are so wrong if that is your implication. But, Charlotte's restaurants are not just on one street, they stretch for blocks and miles in the CBD. And, they are terrific.......but, you have lots of chain restaurants in DT Greenville to chose from, they are mixed in with a few.....a very few....nice ones.
There is a long list of advantages DT Charlotte has over Greenville......parks, professional sports, restaurants, the arts, children's arts, public art, open space, JOBS, multiple living options, light rail, street car system, NBA Arena, NFL Stadium, the nation's best minor league ballpark for the AAA Knights, retail, etc.....and, people notice. You claim that people would prefer Greenville.....if so, the math says otherwise as 50,000+ people move to Charlotte each year......Greenville is lucky to break 10,000. So, in effect, roughly the entire population of Greenville moves into Charlotte each year. Greenville's new residents would not fill the performing art venues in DT Charlotte.
As for the mountains......it is not like Greenville is a mountain town. You are 30 minutes from a very low range. Charlotte is actually closer to places like Boone (115 miles) than Greenville. Sad to see all of your points get crushed. Glad you like Greenville, it's not a bad place. But, comparing it with Charlotte is foolish on any level.
google maps has it labeled Bank of America Financial Center, and the building has Bank of America on it in the street view pic. i think it was called the wachovia tower when I worked there but it is has been twelve years. I believe Duke Energy still has space in the building. it is the 400 South Tryon Street building.
there aren't many chain restaurants in downtown greenville, i am surprised you are making that mistake again.
i google street viewed uptown charlotte and i'm not seeing much patio / sidewalk seating.
it looks like most the restaurants in Uptown are between Stonewall, 9th, Church and College Streets. not that big of an area.

That's awesome, you are arguing about how people prefer Greenville over Charlotte and your basis is.......Google maps, that is such a Greenville thing to do.
It is obvious he that you have no idea what you are talking about. Sad thing, in Greenville, you are normal.

you haven't proved people prefer Charlotte over Greenville. i never said i can prove my theory a majority of people would prefer Greenville. it is just a hunch, based on proxmity to mountains and less traffic. also think a majority of people would prefer Gville downtown to uptown Charlotte. there is no way to prove this one way or another, or even have a reasonable guess because there is no polling data.
anyway i generally try to avoid these city vs city topics because they usually get contentious.
it is interesting that fort mill / rock hill basically never get mentioned in this comparison, although they made the topic title.

Im pretty sure there is. Go for a walk or jog on the trail sometime through there and you'll smell it
A leak in the pipeline is what polluted the Reedy years ago. I remember when it happened, but I don't recall where it leaked. This would have been in the late 70s, early 80s. I remember the dyes being dumped, and problems with sewage getting into the water upstream. It was a big deal then, and I'm rather surprised no one else remembers it.

It's true that there's a lot of retail inside Overstreet Mall. Epicenter is an open air complex so it's not exactly "inside," and several of the office buildings have ground floor restaurants. Some were retrofitted to include them.
Just belaboring a point. Sorry it bothered you so much.
You won't find me speaking badly about Greenville either. I like the place, I just wouldn't want to live there.
No worries. Sometimes something clicks and one likes a place. And the town / city grows on you. When I first came to Greenville 2 decades ago it was a growing town but nothing to write home about. But over the years I have seen in grow aster than many places I looked at for future work, but chose not to go.
The historic sights of Charleston attract me. I am a history buff. The islands are nice too. For me job prospects are better here than in Charleston. I don't do any water activities and don't swim but like hiking hence Greenville is better for me in that respect. But for a guy who likes water skiing or fishing Charleston is the place to be.
It is a good thing we all don't have the same likes.
why does charleston keep coming up on this topic. it is about greenville and fort mill /charlotte. there is a charleston forum if you want to talk about charleston.
