I often see inquiries about salaries in SC and there was an article in the Sun News discussing the issues facingthe workforce for 2008. One of the interesting captions to the article outlined the average annual wages in Horry County for the following jobs:

Construction Laborer: $21,820
Farming, fishing, & forestry: $28,140
Lawyers: $115,720
Management jobs: $66,700
Office/Administrative jobs: $25,360
Physician/Surgeon: $185,250
Postsecondary Teachers: $49,390
Real estate agents: $41,350
Waiters: $15,920

Here is the entire article:

One question is postsecondary teacher... Is that a college level professor? The salary seems high to me, most teachers I know get paid in the $30k range. I can also add that most police & firemen are paid around $28-30,000 range, too.

The article mentions that the wage index has not increased by the cost of living index. It appears to me that the job market is only going to suffer more as economy weakens and without an upswing in the local housing industry.

Very informative, Baylover. I believe that post secondary would be high school, but don't quote me on that. Your starting wage salary for teachers may be in the area of 30,000 and the 49,000 may be the average salary.

Your wages may be low, but they look pretty much in line with ours up here. Wages aren't keeping up with expenses, but we have so many more expenses then we used to have. Washers and dryers and microwaves and one colored tv or one car used to be considered a luxury. Now families with only one car and only one tv are considered to be poor.

The teacher salary sounds high considering the state said it wanted to raise teacher's salary to 47,000.

I forgot to mention that there is Job Expo at the Myrtle beach Conventions Center this Thursday, 2/28 from 10AM - 3PM.

A couple of helpful websites:

Bay, it wouldn't let me read the entire article cause it told me that my zip code doesn't have a library card. It started with info for 2004 so I was curious if they had a bigger turnout this year then back then.

Thanks Baylovers! You are right, I have been searching a while. It seems like most of the jobs are in the major cities (as expected), and there just aren't many listings for Myrtle Beach and Charleston areas. I know there are places out thee, it is just a matter of finding them. Thanks.
