I noticed that a couple of weeks ago and was very surprised. It was sad because when I lived in Greenville a few years ago I saw the Big Kmart there close and now here too, but I guess they couldn't compete price wise with Walmart, for example. I wonder "who" will occupy that space in the future, in Greenville it was a gym but I hope here it'll be another store.

Many Kmart stores in South Carolina that have closed were in trade areas nearby Walmart Supercenter stores. Price is a reason why Kmart lost many battles to Walmart. Kmart focused too much on converting existing stores to Big Kmart, which did not offer anything more from the Kmart discount department store, instead of opening Super Kmart Center hypermarket stores.
