It would be helpful if you gave more information regarding why you're wanting information about Bishopville? Are you looking to live near Sumter/Columbia or Florence? Are you moving for work or are you retired? In other words, what interests you about Bishopville?

I lived there most of my life so I think I can handle this topic. What is it you want to know and why are you considering moving there? I can tell you it is a nice small town but there is really nothing to do. Everyone there is very nice but just like any small town everyone knows your business. My dad owns a motocross track there and has also hosted the "Lee County Cotton Festival" on his land for a few years now. Bishopville is known for being the largest place in the Southeast to buy tractor parts and salvage. It also has a huge prison now and a large landfill that looks like a mountain over the horizon that can be smelled as soon as you approach the exits off of the interstate. The biggest news that ever came from Bishopville is that it is home of the Lizard Man. The Lizard Man started about 10-15yrs ago and just re-surfaced again. Bishopville has a few grocery stores and a few local small stores but does not even have a Wal-Mart. To do any shopping you have to drive to Florence or Sumter. There are two school systems there, one being Bishopville Elementary, Middle and High Schools (all at different locations). And there is also Robert E. Lee Academy (private school). It is a much smaller school with the average class size being less than 40 people per grade (In the late 90's anyway). Let me know what exactly you want to know about Bishopville and I can help more!

I have a friend who grew up in Bishopville, but has left it far behind. When I told her about this post she said to ask them if they like cotton, lol. Apparently there are a lot of cotton fields in Bishopville, but not much else. The State Penetentiary is there, too.

Bob Lee is not bad. It is definitely a predominantly white, protestant Christian institution, but it isn't known as a particularly religious school. It is by no means an elite private school, but they seem to regularly send kids to colleges like Clemson and South Carolina. The folks I know from the school are perhaps a little snotty if you're grading on the Bishopville curve, but I think they are generally a very friendly bunch.
