Default Beaufort area and others

hello, I've been looking through out the south trying to decide where I should begin. I've heard many wonderful things about the people and the beauty of South Carolina. I live on the coast of beautiful Maine but with our long winters - I am seriously considering the south. My main concerns are crime and prices of homes. Maine is extremely safe. We only have a few cities so it really doesn't matter what part of town you decide on - it's safe. I'm not familiar with the south so when I research home prices on removed I'm not really sure if I'm in nice safe areas or not. I love the coast and would like to live close to the ocean but it's not my top priority. Low crime (personal safety) Price of home, conveniences, jobs - those are really important. Also I would prefer to be in a mid-sized town or in a small town close to conveniences. I've looked into Beaufort and would so appreciate some opinions on that town and surrounding towns. Or any other area that is close to your heart feel free to share with me. I thank you so much. Have a good night, Bonnie

Default mainer moving south

Hi,
We also live on the coast of Maine and are considering a move to SC. We like the western part of the state: Greenville, Spartanburg. My husband may actually be getting transfered to the Summerville area and I am not familiar with that part of SC. We too are sick of the Maine winters and high taxes!
Let me know if you find any other info about the coastal areas of sc.
Thanks.

Well I actually just find out a friend of my father's (also a lifetime Mainer) moved to Beaufort SC about 8 months ago. He called my dad a few days ago and absolutely loves it there! He says the weather is perfect and there are tons of things to do. He feels it was the best move he could have made. His wife feels the same way. They're by islands, Parris Island is one of them and a close drive to Savannah, he's really happy with the people in the area. It sounds like the entire atmosphere is working for him.

Where in Maine are you? Love Maine's beauty, low crime etc., but I need to get out of the cold too!

P.S. I'm also looking into towns outside of Birmingham, Al. Good luck in your search.
