The South Carolina Department of Education announced Wednesday, 11 April, it has taken control of the Williamsburg County School District. The Williamsburg County School District Board of Trustees has been stripped of its authority.

Reasons for the South Carolina Department of Education's takeover of the Williamsburg County School District include deficiencies not progressing toward satisfaction and low student achievement.

Unfortunately, school districts like these have a very difficult time attracting young, talented teachers because they are in impoverished rural areas. It sucks.

The South Carolina Board of Education took over Allendale County Schools for similar reasons also.

Yeah if there is no to little tax base then mostly all the aid likely comes from the State and Feds.. which is only a small step away from having most of the local control taken away anyway
