Wow! There is a lot of negative energy in this thread. I haven't really experienced this, but then I do live in a Greenville suburb and see no need to go to smaller areas. Why can't you relocate? Not the person that started the thread, but the other poster that was so negative. How far are you from Columbia? Move there or to one of the other cities.

Well at least that part is better than here in Greenville where they are trying to cover every patch of green with concrete gray. But yes, they probably need some development.

Can't move unless you have money, and without a good paying job, forget it. I wouldn't move to anywhere else in South or North Carolina anyway, but that's besides the point.
I wasn't being negative just for the sake of doing so.......I'm just speaking the truth on how life really is here. Things are REALLY like that, and you know I'm not exaggerating about it because even the OP said similar things, and she's only been here for a few months, so imagine how a lifetime of living here is.

This post is comical and ironic to me because I grew up in Dillon, I jetted out of there when I graduated from High School, however, I wished that I planned out my future a little better, I did attend and finish college in SC but I relocated to New York and lived in the hood for a few years. Now I am finally trying to get back to SC through a company transfer, I'm thinking Charleston may be a good move, there is a company opening there, but I dislike New York so much and the rude people there that sometimes I just visit my mom's house in Dillon just to get away and relax, now I can really appreciate the place. But I wouldn't want to live there. MY POINT IS: there are always worst places on earth so count your blessings.

I hate to say this to you, but if you can't find a job here you won't find one anywhere else. Northerners are flocking south! Greenville is loaded with them. I don't know if you're exaggerating because I don't live in a small town like Dillon and never have. If I don't like something I relocate! I've done it before on very little money. There many ways to create income. What skills do you have? Thats what determines if you make money or not. Why would you move to Dillon and then judge the state based on that? Your can't compare Dillon to Columbia, Charleston, or Greenville.

I did say that I was "BORN AND RAISED" here. Nowhere did I say anything about I MOVED here. And since when did this become all about ME, when I was just telling the OPabout Dillon's other downfalls, being as she's only been here 8-9 months (Possibly a little more now since she started the thread).
If you don't like a place, It's a known fact that it's not as easy to jump up and move for some as it is for others. With the job opprotunities that Dillon and other surrounding areas lack, it makes it even harder. There's a closed-door racism in this city too that also makes it hard to get a job at certain places. Alot of locals here will agree on this but won't say it to just anyone casually.
I know that Dillon can't be compared to those other cities that you mentioned. The only thing that I said about S. Carolina as a whole is that alot of it is too historic and run-down at the same time, even some of the bigger cities, and this can't be denied. Some people like that about it and some just don't. That's all I'm saying basically.
P.S.: This is not an argument, so if anyone takes it that way, then it's their own fault. For some reason, people on this site have a knack for taking things the wrong way, so I just want to clear that up before anyone comes in starting anything.

Whats the Future of I-73 in Dillon ?
At one time SCDOT and NCDOT had been working with the federal DOT to bring I-73 through Marlboro, Dillon, and Marion Counties enroute to Myrtle Beach.. do you know if that is still the case? It was believed that not only would that increase access/tourism to the Grand Strand but it may also open up development opportunties, particuliarly in Marion County. It was believed that even some retirees would relocate along this corridor to have access to the Strand without the higher cost of living or congestion. Tourists would frequents some of the cities in the area as side trips from Myrtle Beach or even seek less expensive lodging in the area. I believe Marion and Mullins both poured money into sprucing up their downtowns for that very reason. Additionally, I-73 would cross I-95 near Dillon which could open up additional opportunties for the area as it has done in Florence at I-20 and I-95. I know none of this can address Dillon in the present, but you wonder if it could have some future benefit to the area... assuming it all comes to pass

It may take a while for this to come to pass, because it is happening at a slow pace. IMO, I believe that developments like this could've taken place years ago. Alot of development that are happening around these parts are years behind.
