If you don't like a place, It's a known fact that it's not as easy to jump up and move for some as it is for others. With the job opprotunities that Dillon and other surrounding areas lack, it makes it even harder. There's a closed-door racism in this city too that also makes it hard to get a job at certain places. Alot of locals here will agree on this but won't say it to just anyone casually.

I know that Dillon can't be compared to those other cities that you mentioned. The only thing that I said about S. Carolina as a whole is that alot of it is too historic and run-down at the same time, even some of the bigger cities, and this can't be denied. Some people like that about it and some just don't. That's all I'm saying basically.

P.S.: This is not an argument, so if anyone takes it that way, then it's their own fault. For some reason, people on this site have a knack for taking things the wrong way, so I just want to clear that up before anyone comes in starting anything.
Wasn't trying to offend you and wasn't offended. I understand that you've been there all of your life. I was in Greenwood most of mine, before I dismissed the whole state I moved to Greenville. Not saying Greenwood is not nice, just saying it lacked a lot of what I was looking for and needed. Have you ever made a full days visit to Greenville or any of the other cities?

Yes, you can move without money - if you want to get out bad enough and are willing to make a few temporary sacrifices and think a little outside the box. All you need is a one way bus ticket to the major population center of your choice that has an okay job market and public transportation system, and directions to the nearest shelter or low cost hostel (some will trade nights for a few hours manning the check in desk). If you're a man, you'll most likely end up getting a place at a night shelter only, but if you're going to be out looking for work all day, that won't be a problem. If you're a woman, it'll be easier to get into a residential shelter that doesn't make you leave during the day (but there are some that do).

If you're motivated and hit the ground running, you'll have a job quickly, and within a few weeks you'll have enough funds to rent a room from someone. From there, save up for a few months and move into your own apartment, then save up for a car, etc. Some community service agencies will even pay your rent and utility deposits to help you move in somewhere. Craigslist and FreeCycle listings always have people giving away furniture and household items, and not all of it is junk. As a matter of fact, Craigslist has lots of ads for people offering rides to different places, sometimes even cross-country. All you need to do is help on gas and/or help drive.

There is always a way. It's just that few people are willing to actually do what it takes and make the short-term sacrifices necessary to change their lives.

I wasn't being negative just for the sake of doing so.......I'm just speaking the truth on how life really is here. Things are REALLY like that, and you know I'm not exaggerating about it because even the OP said similar things, and she's only been here for a few months, so imagine how a lifetime of living here is.

That is a good idea I have to say. The shelter thing varies from place to place though and is not always a good idea, but CAN work.

To keep this on topic though, I wonder if the op has made the move to myrtle beach yet like she said she was saving up to do. Haven't heard anything from her.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "very" nice. It's very small and run down in most of the parts. The neighborhood around the school is pretty ok though. Has that nice "home town" type of feel to it. I like that part personally because it feels cozy. Other than that, there's nothing much about Latta.

The people are more friendly there and are more open-minded than in Dillon. The school's academic scores are pretty good too. For a small town, they score higher than Dillon.

Latta is a very small town but if you compare it to other similar sized towns you will see that Latta is very unique. Yes, it is rural but there is low crime, you can still buy land and almost everyone who is native will give you the shirt off their back if you need it. Latta Schools are consistently out proforming Lake View and Dillon. Dillon being a much larger town. There is a waiting list to get into the public school in Latta. That's is highly unusual.

"U.S. News and World Report released its first ranking of "America's Best High Schools" and Latta High School received recognition."

I didn't see Dillon on the list, but that's beside the point.
I feel bad for the op. She seems very angry. I think it has less to do with Dillon and more to do with herself.
There have been many successful Doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers and even a pro basketball player that have come from Dillon County. maybe if she changed her attitude a bit, things may start becoming more positive.

Default Things to do in Dillon

This is not for the employment seeker. No Jobs galore! Unless your willing to travel.
Option: Perfect for home worker, Internet business a plus. Especially sales. Ebay Power Sellers would love it. Mail service picks up your outbound packages. Fairly quick delivery too. So if your the slipper/robe/cup of coffe type who doesn't mind working from home with nothing else to do but watch TV, then this is the town for you.

Susanayellowbird....

I feel horrible for you. It's a shame that someone that is so openminded and accepting of others gets stared at and not included. Bad Mommy! She should have never moved you to such a place where people dress differently from you and have the absolute nerve to judge YOU for how you look. Mm mmm I'm just at a loss as to what to say that may help you. I guess all I can say is follow your plan and get out quickly! Best Wishes. :/
