Boy, you can say that again.
Long story short: we moved to Lexington SC from NJ ( my bad someone slap me, please.) 18 months ago.
My husband has not been able to find work at all. This must be a statewide problem, because all the problems you listed are here in Lexington, too.
A few people on here mentioned Columbia...well I live 15 miles from Columbia, but I might as well be living on another planet. You'd think living so close to the state capital there would be loads of jobs, services, things to do, etc. Nope.
I want to move back to NJ, but my husband wants to give Myrtle Beach a try. So we made an agreement...we give MB one year and if things are still crappy, we move back to NJ.
From what I've been told, if you MUST move to SC, go to MB or Charleston, cuz there ain't **** anywhere else.

What about Greenville? Not sure how you're going to find a job in Myrtle Beach unless you want to work in a hotel.

no. that is a senseless comment. i wouldn't rely on other peoples opinions. you have to get out and explore and see what feels right.

Would not move to MB either....you will end up having the same problem finding work....and if you do find work the pay will more then likely be terrible. Unfortunately SC has a bad reputation like Mississippi and Alabama. Even the so called progressive areas (Columbia, Greenville & Charleston) still have a long way to go with pay scales and the need to increase job opportunities. You would be better off heading back to NJ.

Well I am from dillon south carolina and this place is horrible. The roads here are bad, they tried to repair them last year but only made things worse. I don't think the education is that bad except for the fact that most of the students just don't care. Their lives are based on drugs and illegal ways of making money and that is really all they care about. I go to Dillon High School and it is common to find kids smoking marijuana in the bathrooms and popping pills on campus. I have walked in on kids smoking weed in the bathroom numerous time but you can't tell on them because every single one of them think they are "bad *****e$" and will want to try and start a fight. They have no respect for others, especially the adults and teachers.
The majority of this town is on some sort of drug or either sells it. It starts at a young age too, usually in elementary school. It's really a shame how these kids are throwing away their lives because they think drugs and sex make you "popular".
Race is an issue here too, I know somebody that worked at WIX and they were fired for dating someone of the opposite race. Management could not deal with it so they found a knick picky way to terminate him even though he had 23 years of service and he was popular in Dillon county and on the job. But why does the white people think they are better than the black people to in this county? They are created equally. I saw nothing wrong with what was going on with a white man dating a black lady. This is not constitutional. Most of the staff members ancestors were in the KKK and they still believe like their parents belived in. This is a different generation and people can't judge anyone by race, religion, etc. This person is highly known in Dillon and would bend over backwards to help anyone. My parents don't think it's wrong. As for the law enforements of Dillon County, it is the buddy buddy system. If you know somebody here that is on the police department they will cover up for you if you do something wrong. SLED really needs to look into the crooked politicians in this county.
Also at Dillon High School all you see is either "rednecks" or "wanna be thugs" , it's ridiculous. If you do not fit in to one of those categories you are stared at and ridiculed.

Unfortunately everything stated here is true. I also live in Dillon and went school here. These people in Dillon do not care. It's not everybody but the majority of them don't, and I really believe a lot has to do with the fact that Dillon just doesn't want to progress at all, so all the natives here know is this kind of life and probably not anything better.
It's really sad here, but some people may like this kind of life. Different strokes for different folks.

I'm from Dillon and i know the person this Lady's talking about.The people told lie on the person and the Manager believed it.I know for a fact this person did nothing wrong,I worked in the same department with him.That night the boy was working his Ass off trying to get his machines fixed,But the next day he came in and was fired, For what?? Some were saying smoking,using his phone and goofing off.But it was because he dates out his race!!!{grow up, get a life Managers}
I was over there near him at the time,Not going to say why,but he was not doing any of this i know.
Wix use to be a real nice place to work.I'm scared that if i come forward about what really happen i will get in trouble, but he did nothing wrong. To this day he will not call are say anything to me because he was not at fault and i did not help him out.
Why would they fire him,it should have been someone else that just walks around and does nothing,
And in other department beggin for a piece of tail,it's a shame how this Company does people.
As for the schools in Dillon, we need to keep playing good Football!!!
The Roads are in bad shape everywhere in the city and county!!!
