We are considering relocating to South Carolina and would like to be within about 30 minutes of the ocean. We are trying to figure out where though. Our children are grown so not too concerned about schools other then I know towns with better schools tend to be more desirable. We would like less touristy areas if possible. We are looking to downsize some, possibly a 55+ community? We work remotely so that makes it easier. We like smaller towns, under about 12,000, but are not opposed to suburbs that are larger, just don't want to deal with traffic and we like being a few minutes to everything in town. Would like to have day to day shopping close, grocery store, hardware store but are fine driving to get to "mall" shopping. We would be open to suggestions all along the coast, NC, GA even northern Florida. Budget is yet to be determined but under $300,000, but would like to be closer to $200,000. Looking for a smaller 3 bed/2 bath, probably under 2000 sq feet. We will probably rent for a year or two anyway to get a good feel for where we really want to be. Open to any and all suggestions. Thanks.

Conway, Summerville, Bluffton. Personally I would not go near Walterboro nor Georgetown.

What is wrong with Georgetown? We drove through there and liked the historical area.

What about Beaufort?
