Who do you use for homeowner's insurance?
We are closing on our house in June and I'm shopping around for insurance now. I got 2 quotes from state farm ($1900) and ZC sterling ($1400). We are buying brand new construction - 2197 sq ft in carolina forest. Any recs on who else I can call for cheaper insurance? Or are these prices the norm? Thanks!

We bought Ameriprise when we moved here but your Realtor should have a list of companies you can call.

Realtors sell new construction also, so I assumed you used one to represent you.
The builder either had a sales rep. sell it to you or the builder sold it to you, they should also be able to provide that info.
What I did was go on the internet and get several quotes from companies and then went to a couple local insurance agencies. Ameriprise was the least expensive for me but I went with a local agency for my flood and auto. The agency I used for those two is in Conway, send me an DM if you want the name and number. My car insurance was cut in half and with higher coverage. Then again, I came from NJ. : )

When we closed on our house "new construction" or salesperson gave us a list of about 6 different insurance companies to call.

This is all new to me, but I thought you needed the insurance before the closing?

You do need the insurance before you close. We received a bunch of paperwork from the builder before our closing and in there was a list of about 6 different insurance companies, along with other paper work in regards to utilites, cable, phone and other information.

Your lender will require you have insurance before closing. Didn't the builder or rep. go over everything with you and tell you about warranties, insurance etc.?

We use a group out of Murrells Inlet. They have excellent coverage as well as rates. The one thing that you have to look for is if you are in a flood zone. That alone can make your rates be a little higher.
Good luck with your move.

In Carolina Forest it shouldn't be a flood zone and that's another thing the builder should have disclosed if it is.
